Does AD White have any ability to sway the Sugar Bowl decision making and have them pick Tennessee over the Alabama team they defeated head to head? Does VolTwitter have any usefulness here? What are the strategic options over the remaining five days before Bowl picks go out? I am not giving up yet! We deserve Sugar here

This was explained in another thread but summary, the Sugar is tied in to take the 2nd best team in SEC. Is that based on ranking or subjective? If its ranking then Bama is in, if not guess its open. The Orange against Clemson would not be a let down from the Sugar against K. State. I would take the Orange.

What happens if the Rose Bowl takes Penn St and the Orange Bowl takes Ohio St? We will get the Cotton Bowl more than likely…

What ability would White have to dictate which team a bowl selects? If there are rules saying they take the highest ranked SEC team not in the playoffs, that's the rule. I'd love the Sugar bowl and being the lead in to the playoffs, but we didn't take care of business. And to be perfectly honest, if I'm comparing bama and UT at this moment, I'm seeing bama with Young in a far more favorable light than UT with Milton. We aren't the same high octane offense we were with Hooker. If he were still playing, our "fun factor" would still be sky high. Now....not so much. We are a shell of what we were earlier this season. Stinks, but that's life. You accept it as being what you have earned and deserve based on your play. Bama might have some losses but they're nowhere near as bad/inept as ours vs UGA and SCjr. Those were flat out ugly. No, UT had a great year by our standards, but we're not nearly at the level some of our fans think we are.

I can imagine they could make their preference known to the committee if they’d want one team ranked higher than the other. Say if they were ranked 6/7, and the bowl wanted the order reversed.

I see your points. I Just am angry That Head to head matchups are now basically meaningless. The regular season should count for something

I agree with you that it makes me mad. I also don't think we beat Bama again without Hooker. Bottom line is if the Vols take care of business in Columbia, then we are #5 looking in and cheering for TCU/USC to lose. So i agree with cavput, we get what we earned.

UT definitely deserves Sugar over Bama. I do believe the Sugar bowl is contractually obligated to take the highest ranked SEC team not in the playoff if I'm not mistaken. So there may be nothing they can do.

As long as it's the Sugar or Orange, I'm happy. What I don't want is us getting downgraded to the Cotton Bowl vs Tulane.

Yeah and honestly I wouldn't even be upset about it. The Cotton Bowl is still a NY6. We wouldn't have the opportunity to beat up on Clemson but beating Tulane by 50 could be fun.

Frankly, a truly, truly awful take.

If we didn’t “take care of business” against a tougher schedule then neither did Bama. 😉

I would love to point out what they did or did not do against the defending national champs or on the road at South Carolina for that matter, but I can’t because Bama eluded losses there by not playing either team. They *did*, however, share a common opponent with us in LSU and…well, the Vols certainly “took care of business” against the SEC West champs. Bama did not.

We’ll see what happens, but whatever the outcome, the roster of 2- and 3-star players that bested Bama on an actual football field should be ranked ahead of them and the whole country knows it.

you have some people wanting the cotton because they are scared to play a better team in the orange or sugar bowls.

A really good friend of mine is a Clemson fan and I was complaining to him about the Bama ranking. He did respond the committee is probably considering Tennessee without Hooker. He stated right now he would rather play Tennessee without Hooker versus Bama. Just an outsiders opinion but I guess it makes some sense because nothing else really does.

Let me help them out. Maybe doesn’t specify ranked higher in WHICH poll. OrangeTsar poll has Tennessee at #6 and Bama at #8. So we are good to go. How do I let the Sugar Bowl officials know of my brilliant solution 😂

Good question by OP tho... if the Rose Bowl would have the freedom to bypass Ohio State and select Penn State, why wouldn't the Sugar Bowl have the freedom to bypass Alabama and select Tennessee?

But what ranking?? AP, Coaches, CFP OR the real results in that UT is the 2nd best team in the SEC?
CFP. The NY6 Bowls are tied to the CFP.

According to the SECs website the sugar bowl takes the SEC champion if they aren't in the CFP so we gotta root for the dogs this weekend otherwise we could end up in a citrus bowl due to politicking.

We shared two common opponents - we also both played Vandy. Alabama beat Vandy at home 55-3. UT beat Vandy on the road 56-0.

UGA is in no matter what. If they lose to LSU I'm guessing they only drop to #3. USC remains #4. OSU #5.

The only remaining game that affects the who is in the Top 4 is the PAC 12 Championship.
