With the circumstances in which we won I'm feeling like yes for all but the best teams in the conference. Defense was a definite sigh of relief and offense should simply build on what they started. Game on britches!

Does spring practice translate to SEC games? If so, then yes. This was a scrimmage and something to teach and grow on, but I wouldn't put too much stock into our D yet until we face real SEC speed.

We are faster and more fundamentally sound than in a loooong time. We never once looked like we didn't know what we were doing.

I think it depends on how well the offensive line gels in the next couple of weeks.

As of right now we are not upper tier SEC yet, but we are getting there brick by brick.

Tonight was a great looking game, and the most fundamentally sound game I think we have seen the defense play since 2010.

Let's hope the OL played with first game jitters. I will say we have an awesome leader in AJ. I'm very glad he decided to return.

No but it means we have a better chance than me or most thought of 8-9 wins. We have to prove we can run

Utah State is a good team but they're probably only truly better than Vandy in the SEC. So who knows.

Utah State would beat Vanderbilt in the SEC, that's about it. So no.

To be fair we never really made an effort to run or go outside of vvanilla . Oklahoma is the game that tells

Just curious if people think this game meant as much as say NC state or Cincy or about the same. I think defensively it was our best opener against a good opponent in a long damn time.

Not unless our O Line can get better in a hurry. Went stagnant after a few big early plays that we had. I believe from this first game, for a lot of these guys, they responded well. It's only gonna get better IMO because we finnaly have some good coaching back on The Hill !

Probably not UGA this year but UT has a steeper improvement curve than most teams due to youth. We'll see more of the young talent as the year goes on. No doubt the game 1 to game 2 curve for UT will also be exponential.

My mind hasn't changed much. I think UT matches well with USCe. I think they should beat UK, Vandy, and MU. I think the Vols have a shot with UF and Ole Miss.

UGA will probably be rough... but you never know with Richt.

Bama looks more a possibility than it did but still a stretch.

OU... just keep it respectable.

I'm still looking for 6-8 wins.

We couldn't block or run the ball against Utah State. That will probably translate to SEC games.

(sorry)

Not well.

Having a one dimensional offense against SEC defenses with speed spells trouble.

Granted it was the first game and just maybe USU prepped to stop the run threat thinking we were going to rely heavily on it and not let JW throw for as much as he did.

However, will need more than the slip screen's to continue moving the ball once conference play starts.

Tonight, they played well against USU and it's something to build on. Brick by brick.

D came to play...Compared to This game vs. the critics, and looking at the overall SEC, I feel pretty good!

I was disappointed in our running as well but USU ' S strength was that LB Corp so I think they made all efforts to stop that. The inability to stretch the field with consistency bothered me more ultimately with Worley and recievers not connecting at times.

We averaged 2.8 yards a carry not good. Proud of the team they look totally different. But we need to run the ball

While that is true - I saw more than a few weaknesses with some of our competitors.

Here is my current read.

Now toss up games - Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Missouri. I predict we win two of these 4 - if forced to pick which ones - Florida, and Missou.

Closer than you might think - Georgia, Alabama.

Tonight wasn't an SEC opponent but with this Tennessee defense we win one or two more games last year and two or three the year before. Baring injury - this defense is miles ahead of where we have been. They can flat out fly to the ball. And if the stars align …… I think we are about to have some fun.

Offensive play calling has to be better. Taking the Randy Sanders approach and throwing screen passes all day worked in this game because we had superior athletes. That stuff doesn't work on the top level SEC teams unless you have the horses. I don't think we are quite there yet.

Worley was very accurate and showed poise, but he was given easy throws all night. I want to see things open up and us throw more intermediate passes.

Would also like to see the running game be more effective, but i won't lose my mind over it with a new o-line going against what was supposed to be a good front 7.
