Does who starts for Bama change your outlook?

Milroe has the ability to run and throw a slant on an RPO. That's it. So Bryce definitely would make more of an impact. It's going to be a dogfight.

You feel we can beat a healthy Young?
Can, yes.
will, probably not.
if I look at our defense with standard sunglasses and not orange colored ones, it’s just not realistic to say that Young can’t score on us. I don’t want to blast our secondary anymore than it already has been. But we know what the talent level there is currently.
if Young plays, we can still win but only by our offense matching them score for score and getting some special teams help or some lucky fumble bounces.

I agree, and I think your summary was tactfully articulated.

It’s probably just my BVS kicking in but I’m terrified of this game. Really hope we’re able to win the line of scrimmage battle. Definitely feel better about Young being less than 100%.

I’m not terrified at all. As has been mentioned, we have nothing to lose right now. Nobody expected us to be in this position and if we get beat, it doesn’t really take away from everything this team has accomplished in year 2 of the Heupel era.

Honestly we still don’t have the depth needed to win the SEC under normal circumstances. So if we do win, I’ll be thrilled. If not, then I won’t be upset because I’ve seen enough to know that it’s coming sooner rather than later. This isn’t the hollow promises we have become accustomed to under The Trumpet Player or Beldar The Gump. What we’ve seen on the field is real and will only get better.

AL has ONE QB that throws down the field worth a damn and his throwing shoulder is "nicked".......

Of course, TN's luck is that his backup that hasn't seen a field since he was in a grasscutter game when he was 7 years old will throw for 400 yds

Imagine this:

Tennessee beats Bama with milroe at quarterback for them, ending the streak and signaling a turning point for the better for the programs future. Bama fans claim it doesn’t count since Young wasn’t starting. UGA beats Tennessee at home in a close game of undefeated to win the tiebreaker and advance and play Alabama in the SEC championship game. Bama wins a close game. Playoff committee rules that bama, uga, tenn are all worthy of a playoff spot over every other 1-loss team out there (assumes no undefeated teams left). Tennessee then beats whoever they draw from bama and uga in playoff semis, either rectifying the uga loss or proving they would have beat bama in October even with young. Meanwhile, the other beats Ohio State. Tennessee then beats said remaining sec team to fulfil the possible scenarios from the first playoff game potential sec matchups and to win the national championship. A decade of Tennessee dominance ensues, ironically just as Pruitt had publicly claimed.

End dream sequence. Need to go change my sheets. 💦

It's not really a question of who starts.

It's a question of whether Young is healthy enough to be effective with that right shoulder.

Because if he's not, if he can't play near his potential, it really doesn't matter whether it's him in the game or his backup.

It's all about how well-healed he is.

And based on Saban's body language in the press conference today, I'd say things are looking significantly not good for the fellas in crimson in that regard.

Go Vols!
If young isn’t 100% ready by Saturday, it would be a bad decision to play him. I know it’s an important game, but it’s a game Bama can drop and still get to the SEC championship. If he re-injures it, which is quite possible since I’m sure we will be dialing up pressure, they are gonna struggle for the rest of the season.

If Young plays I'm worried about him picking apart our defense. Their backup is more of a threat to run, but our secondary wouldn't be as big of an issue.

Honestly they played well against LSU. They had to pass almost all of the second half to try to get back into the game.

It comes down to can their very good defense stifle our great quarterback or can our mediocre defense (secondary) hold off their injured but great quarterback or their good backup.
I think we have as good a quarterback in Hooker as a healthy Young. But can an injured Young exploit our mediocre secondary as much as Hooker can their healthy one.

If Young playsit will be a coin toss. My brain says Bama wins by a TD. My heart says TN wins by a TD

If Milroe plays I think we win by 2 scores.

Here's my predictions.

With a healthy Young Bama 41 TN 34
With a banged up Young. TN 38 Bama 34
With Milroe TN 45 BAMA 34

Not at all……..this time, this year it’s not on Bama…….it’s on Tennessee.

If Tennessee plays like they did vs Pitt Tennessee will lose unless Bama has a terrible game.

If Tennessee plays like they did vs LSU or even Florida (except maybe the last 5-8 minutes) Tennessee will win……..I don’t care who Bama starts at QB.

Listening to the talking heads there and what I hear is that they’re just looking at stat numbers and not at how our defense is built to give underneath between the 20’s to avoid explosive big yardage plays to help out the secondary so of course bunches of short to mid yards add up. Yes our secondary is ummmmm... interesting or bi-polar... but Bama so far doesn’t seem to have their usual studs at WR this year. Who’s throwing to them?

If Young starts, are there thoughts going on in his head knowing he’s not fully 100% and if he takes some hits he could become more injured. I don’t care how much of a baller you are, being a bit tentative of re-injury this soon after the injury is just human nature and that arm is his money maker. A couple of hard landings and/or awkward motion throws and we’re playing against the backup.

I have faith in our coaches and in the players we can win every game mentality. Vols win big.

If Bryce plays and is healthy, they will be much harder to beat, anyone who says differently is either a fool or not being honest (with others and/or themselves). Young is really good.

Gonna hold my final decision until tomorrow. I'm getting caught up reading all the orange tinted glasses opinions.

After losing about 40 games in a row to Bama, it's gonna be hard to go against them regardless of qb. Their defense is much better than any we have played yet.

Not impressed with Milroe. Basically a faster Jayden Daniels. Not saying he won't get yards on us but extremely more confident vs him if we keep him contained.

I just don't see a less than 100% Young coming into such a hostile environment and pulling out a win. We cannot underestimate the "Neyland Factor" in the outcome of this game

The question is, is a gimpy BY better than Milroe. Milroe is a better runner than BY but probably not a huge difference in throwing the ball with a gimpy BY. I think Bammer wins with a healthy BY, but if he's out or plays hurt I think we have a chance. Either way I expect Bamas defense to zone in and have a really good game. Saban will stop us a little bit. Our defense has to come up with a huge performance and get some stops as I see this maybe being the most important key to the game for us.

Having this hang over our heads will make it harder for CTB to prepare his defense. Will it be Young throwing or the backup and his ability to run. We may just see both during the game.

Totally agree. It’s just the past 15 years of beat downs that have me nervous lol. But yes Heupel is the best coach we’ve had since Fulmer without question.

All pundits are saying this is the hardest matchup to pick this week. Given all the blowouts we've had lately that itself shows us how far we've come under this staff.
I have watched several predictions and models and the theme is consistently that Bama wins with Young, likely not without him. Another topic is that last week's outcomes for both teams skew people's opinions too high for UT and too low for Bama. What say you?
I say we can win against either QB, but the margin of error narrows sharply with Bama's Young playing.

ON3 picked the Vols

Both CBS guys have Bama with Young. They are both above 500.

Let’s see, the returning Heisman trophy winning QB, versus an inexperienced QB who looked awful?

Can I get back to you?
