Dogs of VolNation and other pets that are inferior to Dogs

Of the two long coat German Shepherds, the lighter brown colored one is Trudy. We found out shortly after we bought her that she was born with Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia and they didn’t expect her to live a year. That was over two years ago and she’s still living herself a fun little life. Getting her littermate sister, Olive, the darker one, was a spur of the moment decision, but I’m now convinced that if she didn’t have her sister to compete with and run and tussle with, that she probably would not be doing as well. Olive is like an elite athlete, like most good German Shepherds, and Trudy is not as fast, but she holds her own.

Dogs are the best!
Did she have to have surgery? She’s beautiful. So great to see her having fun!

No, we were told that it would be a very expensive surgery that somebody in Colorado performs to repair the valve and that it is high risk with a low percentage of success, so we can't afford that financially or otherwise. They told us that at some point she will probably develop heart disease and we will manage it medically as well as possible, but it will probably end in congestive heart failure at some point. She sees her vet frequently, and he says she has the biggest heart (because of how hard it's having to work) and the worst hips of any dog he's ever seen. He feels like she should have been euthanized shortly after birth and is amazed that she has lived this long. Like I said, I think it was God that inspired me to grab her sister also, as that helps Trudy to have the best life possible in spite of her birth defects, and she gets lots of love and is very happy. We have an ottoman in the living room that she loves to sleep draped accross, because it takes pressure off of her hips. I'll have to post a pic of that.
