Dogs of VolNation and other pets that are inferior to Dogs

As some of you know, we had our first baby and we were gearing up for our dog to go through a little melancholy behavior, but she got super depressed. Stopped eating or showing excitement for anything and was constantly trembling. Took her to the vet and she has Addyson's disease. It's a genetic hormone defficiency common in poodles and big life changes can trigger it.

After a $1200 diagnosis and some hormone treatment ($1400/yr in perpetuity), my dog is finally bouncing back. She's still not the same dog, but it's much better than it was and seems to be still improving. This was last night and it was the first time (in 2 months) that she showed any real interest in the baby.

Great photo, and glad you had the wherewithal to be able to get the problem diagnosed and improved. I'm sure both baby and pet are blessed to have you. Well done! I pray she continues to improve.

Thanks! Very well behaved. We brought him to my daughters high school football game. Very well behaved around a lot of people and the band playing right in front of him. View attachment 171902
What kind? We had one that looked almost identical but could never figure out the breed completely. Vet said maybe a mix of Lab and Weimeraner. Exact same color and single white mark on chest though. Died of heart break one month after my Catahoula. They were raised together from very young pups.

He’s a Great Dane. Sorry to hear about your dogs. It’s tough to lose one, much less both in a month.

Sometimes I work nights. I get home around midnight. My wife took this picture. She said "When you work nights, Casey sits by that door until she hears you turn in the driveway".

That is loyalty. And love. Oh...she's not a patrol dog. She's a rescue, and I chose to not try to train her. After I found out what she had been through, I decided to just let her be a family dog, and enjoy her remaining years. Which was a tough call, because she clearly has the DNA.

Daddy's Girl. Pity the fool who tries that door.

Rescue dogs are the most loyal you can find. They know who gives them life.

There is a soft spot for GSD rescues.

You said it. One of these days, I'll give you the whole story off-line. That girl is loyal beyond description.

She loves to ride. If I grab my truck keys on the weekend, she blocks the door. She's going, or I'm not. One day, just for the helluvit, I put her in the back of a Tahoe I had borrowed to work in; went a few miles down the road to a long two-lane with no traffic and few homes; lit it up; hit the siren; and watched her. She went absolutely nuts. Funniest thing I've ever seen. So she's got the DNA. Wish I had gotten her as a pup.

So now I have my own car, even though I'm P/T. 2006 CV with 215,000 miles. Butt-ugly, but mechanically sound, and still runs like a sprayed roach. They also use me for marine response calls (my SO has a small but well-equipped marine unit), so they gave me a vehicle I could run code in.

On Sunday afternoons, we go for a ride. We both get a kick out of it.

Upper Management thought you'd enjoy knowing that.

Yes, they love their rides...

About 42 degrees out. You think she cares?

We rescued our Husky. Had a broken front leg when we got her and had been walking around on it for a few weeks. It was either amputate it or spend several thousand dollars with a low chance of it saving it. She was abused by her previous owner and was incredibly scared of me (all men really) when we first got her. But I slowly earned her trust and she would sleep with me every night if my youngest daughter would allow it. She is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever been around. And missing a leg has not slowed her down at all.

We also have a pit lab mix that we rescued. He is also a very sweet dog and very very protective of my family. Doesn’t matter if it’s another dog or a human, if he thinks something is about to hurt anyone in our family, especially my youngest 2 daughters, he is quick to get in the middle of it, but yet gentle enough to not be aggressive himself.

And they are all lap dogs. When my Great Dane is grown, it’s going to be really uncomfortable. 😂

5 of the 6 are in the bed with us every night. The boxer just prefers the floor.
It’s the whole reason I got and oversized king bed.
