Ray(Noch)

How does he and the baby get along?

Baby is about as laid back as can be (unless he's hungry) so he pretty much goes along with anything Ray wants to do, including licking his entire head and face. To make up for it though, Ray sleeps in front of the baby's door just in case anyone would try to meet Dec without Ray's knowledge. The gatekeeper, if you will.

Beautiful dog Noch. Glad he and Dec are buds

Awesome

on rare occasion it looks like my dog (Jughead) has a Power T on his chest. As you can see here, the cat (Kitty Purry) is giving him the stink eye

Your dog/cat combo looks a lot like mine. This is Zod and Nala who I torture during football season if you can't tell :)

People training would be tough, with me being the toughest to train. Haha

My Malinois gets overly excited anytime the wife or I get home. Jumping and yipping. We've tried to break her of this habit and have failed. 100% our fault.

She, the malinois, has a high ball drive inside. Outside, she loves her sticks.

Any tips for training the wife and I? We're both in our 50s and are empty nesters, however, still trainable.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Things imploded at work right after my last post and I did not get a chance to look at volnation until this morning.

As for your training questions... always remember, a tired dog is a well behaved dog. Engage them and let them play/run hard outside and they will be easier to manage inside.

My shepherd Ruger is very high energy and has major separation issues when I am not home. He was kept in a crate about 20hrs a day for the first 10-months of his life. We rescued him and he latched on to me day one. He almost panics when I start to leave without him. We are still working through this and he is getting better.

He is still a work in progress dealing with his behavior when I do come home. Most dogs that greet their owner by jumping on them are giving you a submissive greeting. It is a pack thing. They feel the need for your immediate attention and approval. They are trying to get face to face for this reason.

You can try several things... but the main point is for you not to make a big deal about coming and going from your dog. I had fits with my children coming home from school and in the door calling, baby talking and kneeling / rough-housing with Nyssa. This is why dogs jump on company coming over and get uncontrollable habits.

You can calmly walk in the door, ignore your dog unless she has all 4 feet on the floor. reward her when she greets you on all 4s.

You can walk in and ignore her then give her a clear set command. Usually down or sit-stay. This sometimes works best, as it is easier to teach a dog a command then it is to change a dogs behavior.

Hope this helps, shout if you need anything...

Thanks, CHV!

My Malinois has separation issues with hair on them (lol) and we've had her since she was a pup.

I did the calm entry this am, as always. However, this time, when she started her jumping thing, I turned from her and made her set. She actually responded well, calmed quickly. Once calmed, I turned to her, bent over to her to let her smell my breath and face and she was good. Now, I have to stay in the habit of doing this.

Thanks again.

We rescued this girl a little over a year ago. Best decision ever. You couldn't ask for a better dog. She's part lab / part we don't know. Everyone has their theories.

Lab mixes are awesome!

Sounds like you have a smart dog and she responds well. Be consistent and you should be able to square this up pdq. Good luck

Anyone here ever seen one of these? It's a Caucasian Shepherd.

Damn! I'm more of Irish Woflhound type if I were to go big. Tho, I try to stay away from dogs that are bred to have qualities that shorten its life. How long to C Shepherds live?

I've got an English Mastiff. Someone told me once you have a mastiff all dogs seem small. I was working a beer fest a few weeks ago and there was two Irish Wolfhounds there. Everyone was talking about how big they were and I thought they seemed small, lol.

These dogs life span is 11 years on average. Males get up too 200 lbs.

These dogs were bred too protect from bear, hence the aka: Russian Bear Dog.

I've listened to owners talk about them. They are extremely loyal and great around the owners kids. Said the kids ride on their backs.

Owners also say, as a stranger, you NEVER want to wander into this dogs territory. They will shred you.

I have seen one on youtube neutralize 2 wolves at one time. The wolves were after a herd of sheep and this dog showed them otherwise.

Even in terms of height? The thing that sold me on IWHs is they were bred to take a rider off his horse. That's just insane. They trot/gallop like they are horses.

In general IWHs probably do get a little bit taller, I know Great Danes get taller but not as heavy. These were probably about the same height as my Mastiff but didn't have near his bulk. He stands about 30 inches at the shoulder and weighs about 175 lbs.

Dear God. He must wear a belt for a collar

I had to order that collar online because I couldn't find one big enough for him. I got it a little big because it wasn't cheap and I didn't want to have to buy another one. I've got several he outgrew already. I think the center hole is for a 28 inch neck, he's in the first or second hole right now but he isn't done growing either. I don't think he'll get any taller but he will get thicker.

Not exactly a glamour shot, I thought the pollen in his dog beard was funny lol. Kobe!!

This is Pepper, German Shepard and Labrador retriever. Gentle like a Lab, swims like a Shepard. Easiest dog I've trained.
