Our chocolate Labrador INDY, named for the colts when Peyton was there, passed away today. He was 15 years old and it really has upset my wife and three girls. Best dog I ever had. Feel bad for everyone that loses a beloved family member pet.

He must have been well cared for. 15 years is pretty good for a Lab. Mine died at 15 in 2015 and I still miss him.

I’m so sorry to read this. It’s such a painful experience. I still dream sometimes about dogs and cats that I’ve lost. We dread when the day comes for our elderly cat.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.


When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.


There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.


There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.


All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.


The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.


They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.


You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.


Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Lost the old man this afternoon. Got back from the volunteer fire station in such a good mood after doing some training to be ready to help my community. Got in and the wife said he wasn't doing good and he was gone a couple hours later in my arms. My eyes still hurt from crying, my son and a fellow firefighter had to bury him for me, I just couldn't do it. God blesses us with the care and companionship but dang is it hard when they leave our lives.

So for those that have lost a furry friend this year someone sent me this last week I guess pretty well sums up our feelings for our pets.
"When we (man) experienced our fall from grace, God endowed the dog with all the properties initially intended for us...honesty, loyalty, nobility etc. and made the dog our best friend to be kept by our side so that we could see what strengths of character we could aspire to....but never quite achieve..... "

Just like my house. We got a new little dog here a couple of months ago. He's half Yorkie, half 'ramblin man'...and 110% chewer. So far, 2 of my ballcaps, 3 lamp plugs, 2 insoles out of my shoes and two folders full of my workpapers. The rascal dog literally ate my homework.
