I don't like the product we have just like everyone else but Hamilton's inept ability to write a contract favorable to the University has us in a mess and it keeps getting worse.

The way I see this now is it will cost in excess of 20 million dollars to change coaches.

How you ask?

buyout to Dooley

buyout to Sal

to Chaney

replacement coach

new coordinators

new assorted assistants.

FWIW: If for some reason we happen to win the next 2 games and go to the Liberty Bowl does Derek Dooley's contract give him an automatic extension? Probably so.

If this were 10 years ago and money were no object it'd be one thing. Today is a much different story. I know, there will be a furry of people lash out that "We have rich donors that can afford it." Sure, spend someone else' money. They may be hanging onto it waiting for Obama and the 99% ers to take it away.

The University and the state are up to their eyeballs in broke. Someone has got to do a better job of managing business with these out of control sports contracts.

I don't envy Dave Hart at all. He's got a pissed off fan base demanding a firing, a checkbook with negative numbers in it, and a price tag to fix the problem ridiculously high. Yes, I realize there is a price to pay for empty stands, however, the University shares the SEC tv contract money and the money in the stands to them may be relatively small. In years past the Trustees for the University were mainly Knox County and surrounding area business people. They had an interest in the attraction that brought 100,000 people to the city for the weekend. Not the case now. Most of the Trustees are from Nashville west and could care less about how much a fan spends in Knoxville on game day weekend.

NO!!! It dosent matter how you try to twist the end of the season, its over! You can not dismiss everything over the last 3 years bc he beats Vandy and Kentucky and prob some mid major team in a bowl.

I thought this was going to be a thread about master p...which would've been refreshing compared to all the "fire Dooley" threads

It's got nothing to do with performance it has to do with money.

Remember, this whole dang mess started with fans moaning and *****ing about Phillip Fulmer's performance as coach and it doesn't appear to be getting better at this point. It does appear to be getting more costly.

It's the same everywhere you look these days. People that aren't paying the bills demanding service. I'd venture a guess that 99.9% of the people screaming for a new coach won't donate a dime to pay the bill. Those students and parents fighting to pay tuition bills might have a different opinion when tuition goes up while the University pumps 20 million into football coaches.

It could potentially cost the university a lot more money than that if the team continues to struggle. Think about how much additional revenue the team creates when it does well. The empty seats alone could be worth 2-3 million per game. That does include merchandise or revenue generated from a bowl game.

Your argument makes no sense. They're "up to their eyeballs in broke"? Why do you think that is? Because they can't sell tickets or merchandise or draw donations like they used to. But then you argue that they don't need to sell tickets because of the SEC TV contract. Weird.

6 at home games times 2 million additional revenue per game = 12 Million Dollars

12 Million in lost revenue < 20 million to change coaching staffs.

And I don't watch Fox News, they are too liberal to suit me.

If they don't make a change after this season, things in the long run could get much worse. Fan apathy is already pretty high, and Dooley coming back will guarantee it will only get worse.

I can't imagine how horrible the offseason will be if Dooley is retained, and next season after the team loses to both Oregon and Florida (which will no doubt happen), I can only imagine how ugly things will get.

I can find $7 million right here:whistling:

"UT's release Monday stated that multiple components related to the historical budget model for athletics at UT that are contributing factors to the current financial situation and the lack of a reserve. Among those components are an annual minimum gift of $6 million from the athletic department to the university system"

"According to UT athletic director for communications Jimmy Stanton, following the completion of the most recent SEC television contract in August of 2008, the department pledged $1 million a year for 15 years to university academics which operates to benefit non-student-athletes."

I have heard from a major booster that he would spend "whatever it takes". He takes a loss worse than me, and I take losses pretty bad. Money will NOT stand in the way for ANY coach Hart wants. I am 100% certain of this.

The State is up to it's eyeballs in broke just like the Federal Government, the City, the County and every other arm of Government. It has nothing to do with not selling tickets. It has everything to do with piss poor management from the Library Board on up to the White House.

Give Phillip a lifetime contract, then fire him and buy that out.

Spend 12 Million on Kiffin and Company only to get suckered because USC didn't have to buy us out to take them.

Hire a man who was making Half a million a year, bump his salary a measly 400% and give him a 5 Million dollar buyout. Extend said buyout 1 more year if he manages to go to the toilet bowl.

Hire another coaching staff with 2 dump truck loads of money to stay ahead of Alabama in paying coaches and nobody has any proof that the incoming coach will be significantly better. (I really don't see how they could be worse) However, better and significantly better are 2 different things. Mark Richt is Better Nick Saban is Significantly better.

So, what you are saying is the Taxpayers ought to foot the bill. Take 7 million out of the University's education budget and who makes that up? Student tuition payments? Taxpayer Money?

Again, NOT YOUR MONEY. You are doing exactly what I said, spending someone else's money.

Probably, I'm guessing thats what happens at schools that want to win. UT has the highest ticket tax rate in the SEC.

I'm not spending anything. Let me ask you a question.

If you had 3 billion dollars in the bank. What would YOU give to help the VOLS right now? Plus by donating to a school you get an almost double write off for your taxes. What would YOU do? Well there are people out there that love UT, and have billions, and love to not give it to uncle sam.

Correct me if I misinterpreted, what your saying if Dooley gets UT to a Bowl we're F***** and stuck with Him for another year or 2? Well lets start the get rid of Dooley fund because I'm good for a couple of Hundred Bucks....How about the rest of the Fans? This Maddness must stop....I'll gladly help fund his departure, the Vols are embarrassing and Dooley is responsible, I can't take another day of his lack of performance in coaching
