Done with the Heisman

Once again, more deserving candidates left hanging in the wind. (JMHO) Thoughts?

Watson and Peppers both should have been ahead of Jackson. Once again (MHO).

No. Watson was good, not great and was much better last year. Peppers shouldn't have even been a finalist IMHO. The right guy won it.

He played no one until FSU, had a great game then lost to Clemson, and then played 5 more nobody's, then lost to Houston, and then the ultimate choke game against UK. Imagine this, let Dobbs play the teams Jackson did and he would have been invited to NY too. They dropped the ball BIG TIME!

As I said and stand behind, Watson should have won hands down, Peppers second, and Jackson third but it's a mute point.

But Tennessee players can't win...

Whom ever gets the hype machine going fast enough

He became a media feeding frenzy against nobody but we saw him fold against equal, and lesser teams... with FSU being the exception at the time. FSU plays the Cards again, different outcome I'd wager.

Why Peppers second? He had a good start to the season but then faded significantly. Don't see this one at all. Really good versatile player, but I don't think he did enough to even be invited to NewYork, much less finish second.

What a joke. It's like the players who actually deserve to win the damn Heisman, doesn't win it at all.

I was completely supportive of Lamar until the UK game. I'm obviously biased, but no way I can pick someone who plays so poorly against a team like UK. He lost the game by himself.

But it's a weird year. A bunch of good players that just didn't have the flashy moments or story behind them. As much as I don't like seeing a QB who was on a 9-3 team that lost to UK win the Heisman, I can't really argue for anyone else strongly.

To B.E.N and 95, I take it you never watched a game peppers played in! Figures! More dynamic in all roles he played. A true player of the game in so many facets, but Watson should have won hands down.

Just because you use ! doesn't make you right. Even Peppers said he didn't deserve the award.

Peppers should have never even been mentioned. As far as Jackson winning, thats a debate between him and Watson. But the Heisman is a statistic and popularity award. Lamar Jackson has been the flavor of the month the whole season.

Look what Lamar did against these defensive juggernauts. He is fast and can run, but he is not a QB. He is basically a WR playing QB. Whoever ESPN pushes is who usually wins it. :thud:

No he wouldn't because Donna most likely would have lost to FSU and Clemson. This kid won the thing because he was the most electrifying player since Reggie Bush. He completely dominated an FSU defense that is loaded with NFL talent. He had them on the brink of beat Clemson. Dibs beat win this year comes against a Florida team that FSU pimp slapped.

also Dobbs led an offense that put up 3pts in the second half vs a pedestrian Vandy team...VANDY!!!

I like Dobbs and will miss him at Tennessee but he was a 3 year starter and couldn't hold a candle to a 19 year old 1st year starter

The Heisman Trophy is kind of like Notre Dame football - a relic from the past which used to be something to get upset about. Now, ..... not worth the energy to care anymore.

Can you imagine VN in 1998 after the ceremony? Full meltdown

How was he dynamic in other roles....like 137 rushing and 3 yards receiving? He wasn't even the vest defensive player on his team.

Not to mention he got torched twice against Colorodao....off the top of my head.

I wrote off the Heisman back when every other VOL fan did. Out of the 926 Heisman voters out there 807 of them are media members. Yes, a good portion of those hail from the great network of ESPN.
