Doneal Mack leaving Memphis

Willie is tough enough to compete for playing time. I like Willie and wish him well.

I also hope Willie has a superb year but to say Cal has something against Willie because he is recruiting players that might take his minutes is ludicrous.

I agree the way Cal gets better is with better players and teaching players to be better , and imo he's pretty good at it

So Cal is just supposed to not recruit anybody that might be better than Kemp? Cal is getting the best players he can, even if it is at PG. It doesn't have anything to do with how much he trusts or distrusts Willie. If Rose had stayed one more year, Cal would have still gone after the same players. It sounds like you are disguntled that Cal played Rose over Kemp. Kemp is a pretty good PG but he is not a top level PG.

I actually liked Andre running the offense better. And for the record, running a Bolivar HS team with "flawless execution" means jack on a top tier college team.

To answer your question, no, I don't think Willie is going anywhere. If he leaves now, he will only have one year of D-1 eligibility left.

Nope, not saying that. I was not upset that Rose started over Kemp nor am I upset that Sallie signed with Memphis. I wanted to know if Tiger fans thought Willie would stick it out with Memphis. You've probably watched more Memphis games than I, but IMO he lost confidence when Cal' kept giving him the quick hook. He started to look for the quick shot, instead of running the offense. Would you agree or disagree? Also, Kemp's assist to turnover ratio was 3/1, the best for Cal' while he's been at Memphis. Yet Allen was allowed to make turnover after turnover. Statistics don't lie, when Kemp played more than 10 minutes he shot over 41% from 3, the 12 games he played less than 10 minutes he shot 9.5% from 3. Looks like lack of confidence was his biggest issue.

I'm from just east of Memphis also, and about half of my friends are Tiger fans. I don't hate the program or the coach, I have a respect for the basketball team just like most of my friends have a mutual respect for Pearl and Tennessee. I'm just saying that some Memphis fan believe that Cal' was unfair with Kemp also. This was in no way a flame, just an honest question.

That's cool. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was barking back if that's the way it came across. I do believe Kemp got yanked too quick sometimes and there is no doubt it hurt his confidence. His PT became smaller and smaller as the tournament wore on and I do think he should have gotten some more PT. I think he can showcase this year if he has the confidence. I am not sure he will be a C-USA 1st teamer but I can see him be a 2nd or 3rd teamer.

I have no doubt Willie will finish his college career out at Memphis. The incoming class does not have anyone on Derrick's level so I think Willie can prove himself and hopefully have a strong year. If he does that, his senior year should be a great one.

As do I..I like to watch the young man play. He's not a bad player, at all.

I think he realized he is not a Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Xavier Henry, etc. and might not get the minutes those guys do.

Disclaimer: I know Memphis does not have Xavier Henry, just using him as an example of a top guard from the 2009 class.

Haven't heard of this. Will Cal welcome him back with open arms?

Supposedly yes. He left on pretty good terms and I think Cal realizes that an experienced player is definitely a bonus. He will be a good 6th man.

2009 will be a monster year for Memphis if everything holds together..

Mack is on his way to the University of New Orleans. Good pickup for Joe Pasternack.

The understanding I have now is that Mack told UNO he was coming, but now is wishing he could go back to Memphis. This is going to get interesting.

Sounds to me like he got an epiphany and decided he was gonna make his own decisions and quit letting his dad run his life for him.
