According to this poster
"Just got a phone call from a booster in Madisonville for years, he talked to Joe B. and Billy Donovan is the new coach of UK that will be announced tomorrow. I do not agree with the decision to get rid of Gillispie after 2 years because it is wrong to do that without giving a coach a chance. I guess he really messed up on the inside of the program and pissed off the wrong people but you heard it here first folks and it will happen."

It would be interesting to see how Florida fans would view Billy D if this actually happened.

The source is an anonymous poster in an internet message board. Well …….….. that is good enough for me.

If true, does this mean we get to dominate UK now?

No. It's like the Bama days of old, when we had the better team but nutted up on the field. Same thing on the court with UK. These are some of UK's weakest teams in a l-o-n-g time, and we split last year, and got swept this year.

Our friend who this morning was 100% sure Billy is gone is now not so sure.

"There seems to be some indications that perhaps the "grand slam" hire that so many have thought was a "done deal" might not be as easy to do as was once thought. Billy Donovan may be UK's next coach, but maybe not.

At this point, BCG might have caught a break. It would be crazy to fire a coach after two years if you are not able to make the right hire to replace him. "

Basically he is saying that first they met last Friday and couldn't come to an agreement, terminating his job. Now, after realizing Billy D isn't as easy to get as they expected, they want to talk to Gillispie again.
Judging only from what I have seen of Billy G the last two seasons, it doesn't seem like his ego would allow him to reach an agreement.

All I know is that if Gillispie is retained, the athletic department is gonna get a BUNCH of heat.

If the UK AD is truely negotiating a contract with another coach, why that be a situation that Gillispie would himself want to return to if they can't get the other guy in Lexington?

Not near as much heat as they'll catch if they fire Clyde and suddenly realize Travis Ford is their best option.

I could see a conversation like this one transpiring:

Barnhart: After thinking about it for a week, we've decided we don't want to make a rash decision. Just work with us on the offcourt issues and everything will be fine.
Billy Clyde:After thinking about it for a week, you can kiss my ass. Just go write my check and everything will be fine.
