Dooley with recruits

I agree mostly. If you are OL you will play, this doesn't end because we lost the 3 dumbegos...and we have an all freshman SEC Olineman to prove it!

I had a little bit of a problem understanding what you said...

Douglas was a blessing... without him our OL next year would be in serious trouble...but that is a rare exception...not the rule...

and I'm not saying it has ended with the trio leaving...just saying that without a doubt we have to get OL in this years class...

I think the the previous staff was promising early playing time. The duo from MS....actually any O-line guy, Stone, Cullen should look at UT, because we need OL guys and we took a TE from Alcoa and turned him ino a tackle. Do you need Coach O to sell that?

Maryville not Alcoa...

...and Coleman and Robinson have backed out for this weekend...so there is a little more to it than just early playing time...

Sorry, Maryville...who was the go to person recruiting them, guessing O, but is that right?

I can tell you that the guys coming this weekend are going to get the royal treatment. One of the hostesses that is going to be "assigned" to Ambles was at the hockey game dressed to kill. She said she was in charge of showing Ambles around. The scenery certainly won't be bad for them that's for sure. Reel em in!

Thought Ambles canceled his visit.

Green is definitely a priority...I don't hear his name alot, but I hope we offer Darian Stone from Clinton a scholarship, he is a little short for QB 5'11", but the kid is a raw athelete

to add to what CagleMnt touched on in this thread; after watching the presser, i truly believe this guy will be a great recruiter, assuming he has a good staff to back him up. i really enjoyed listening to him speak, and i think parents will too. he was relaxed and confident. i am afraid to even guess how this years class will end up, but if the guy can pull of an upset or two next year or just play close in some big games, he may catch fire on the recruiting trail.

All we can ask for is that Ambles gives CDD and CKB a chance to present where the program is going from here. If they present a good argument than I think he will stick with us.:crossfingers:

Well,

a) Ambles cearly isn't going to do that.

and

b) Looks like there is no such thing as "CKB" at UT anymore.

If Dooley was Sabans head recruiter for years at LSU and considering they won two SECC and one NC then we're in good hands. The only issue is DD has about two months of work to do in two weeks.

oh well. its only the third time he's left. Thompson is much more important.

so kippy is officially gone???

Kippy told Doug Matthews that if Seattle offered, he'd take the job with Pete Carroll. Kippy will leave the program probably sooner than later.

I'm taking a wait and see on CDD's recruiting ability. From what I have read of these recruits, they are very interested in being "coached up" to make it into the NFL. Especially the 4 and 5 star recruits. It will all depend on his ability to convince them he can get them into the pro's.

This is from another thread I just started...

According to tigerrag, covering LSU's recruiting, here's who Dooley helped recruit from 2000-2003:

2000- Chad Lavalais, Stephen Peterman and Corey Webster (future All-Americans in what was considered to be a makeshift class)
2001- Joseph Addai, Bennie Brazell, Michael Clayton, Travis Daniels, Marquise Hill, Rudy Niswanger, Marcus Spears, Andrew Whitworth, Ben Wilkerson (considered the foundation of the '03 NC team)
2002- Skyler Green and Kyle Williams (All-Americans)
2003- Matt Flynn, JaMarcus Russell, Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis, and LaRon Landry (speaks for itself)

Here's the link:
TigerRag - 30 Years of LSU Football Recruiting

I'm no longer all that concerned.

Being a Tech Alum an avid LSU fan living in Tennessee I can finally say I am on the VolNation bandwagon with this hire.

That being said. Recruiting in Lousiana is easy when your a coach at LSU. All 4/5 star athletes will highly consider LSU first over all others no matter if they go 0-11 in a season. There is a hard louisiana pride to high school athletes choosing LSU. LSU has lost some 5 star recruits to out of state schools most recently Loston to UT and Mcknight to USC. But very few will leave to out of state schools.

Recruiting at La Tech is a total different story. Dooley had a very hard time recruiting local boys so would have to open his search to the fertle ground of Texas to get quality players. Every once in a while Tech would get lucky with a player who couldnt qualify and end up with Tech.

Watching him recruit at UT will be very interesting. I have a suspicion he will surprise many people. UT has the facilities that can match any Football program, good acedemics, proud tradition and a fan base to match all. He will recruit using the university and its football tradition to land 4/5 star athletes for years to come.

All hail Derek Dooley.... the future of the VOL nation.

go Tech
go LSU
now Go vols
and go anybody who beats ala

Dooley will have to work his tail off over the next 2 weeks. Fortunately, a solid foundation was laid by the departed... he needs to go close. We can still sell the program and an opportunity for playing time.

O-line is top priority.

If Bray and Simms stay as it looks like they will we don't need another quarterback. Now offensive lineman is another question.

Yeh linemen on both sides above all. That's where our losses have stemmed from is getting waxed up front. Really really sux losing Dixon. That guy was gonna be a stud I thought. Leave the vols for Baylor....just don't get it. No matter who was coaching UT has to look better than that crap.

lets remember the good talent we got coming back. Bryce brown is gonna be a 1000 yard rusher, Janzen jackson is a dominant Safety. Good LBs (king, askew, reveiz squared) good WR (GJ, marsalis, zach rogers, d moore). a couple good d lineman and some good intangable guys to have like oku and poole. QB will be interesting as always. good talent though.
