Dooley WRU vs Butch WRU

hunter was a good athlete but lazy and scared after his injury and just played for the NFL cause he couldn't keep it in his pants and couldn't come down with the ball when it mattered most. Fact. Hunter ran his mouth about not being stopped by Florida but couldn't deliver. CP and Rogers were the best 2 of the three.

Can't quite say because all the of Dooley's WRU guys are in the NFL and are playing. The potential is there for Butch's WRU though especially if Croom comes along.

Don't forget, we have Williams coming in January. He may be the best of all of them. In addition we have other receivers coming in June-July who could also be included in this best ever gathering of WRs. We will also have outstanding RBs starting this Fall. The future is very bright for our VOLs.

How about this...

Did Dooley's EVER beat a ranked team?

No ... but he did beat Butch

and it is way too early to tell on the wideouts . As it stands big advantage Dooley . Come back and ask that question in three to four years

At this point I got to go Da'rick Rodgers, Justin Hunter, and Cordarrelle Patterson all three will likely be STARTING receivers in the NFL come fall!

Malone, V.P. & North will all get the chance do the same in two or three years plus!

Yep.

Right now I gotta give it to the Vol record setting wr's. Yards and points were easy to come by with that group.

Our current crop have alot of potential tho.

The real comparison is obviously Hunter, Patterson, Zach Rogers vs. Malone, Pearson, and North.

It is really close. I would give the 2012 crew the nod right now, but acknowledge that the 2014 crew has a much better 4 & 5. The 2012 crew put up good numbers, but were very inconsistent. CP could only run 2 routes and Hunter had his own problems. Despite putting up monster yardage numbers, he did nothing against the teams that mattered. 3 TD's against GSU, 3 TD's against Troy, another against Akron, 1 TD (Mizzou) in our 7 losses.

If Pearson stays and Preston Williams stays committed, the 2015 receiving corps will be like nothing we have ever had, and I am not the kind of person that gets all googly-eyed about recruits coming in and being successful.

It's not a good look for this site when you have more "likes" than posts. Especially when you post something like this.

Based on depth of talent and quality of talent at this point in their careers... this is the best group I have seen at UT in more than 20 years. Croom, Malone, Pearson, North, et al... are a VERY talented group.

Meachem, Swain, and Smith were a good group. Meachem would seem to compare well to Malone or North... but Swain and Smith don't.

Hunter, Rogers, Rogers, and CP compare well but there wasn't much after them.

As others have said, many of the guys in question are or have been in the NFL. But if comparing this group now to those groups when they were at this point... this would be the group I'd choose.

Be that as it may, Hunter played to protect his NFL stock that last year. He wasn't the same player.

sucks for us fans but I dont blame him.
at the same time I dont think he played half as bad as some people say he did. That was a bad team with a avg run game and he put really good numbers.

I have a very difficult time ever accepting that a guy with his talent does not give his all for his team. I understand what you are saying... but selfish players and prima donnas were a big part of UT's fall and struggles going well back into the Fulmer era.

Even if I understand in a purely pragmatic sense... I can't help but be offended by the whole notion that you don't lay it on the line for your teammates.

We have threats all over the field on offense. If we can protect the QB, establish some semblance of a running game, and deliver the ball, we will score some points. I'm more worried about the defense keeping the opposition within reach.

Our ability to protect the quarterback worries me.
