IMO, Dooley earned an A+ for the way he held our class together in the three weeks between when he was hired and NSD. Kept the majority of the class together and picked up several other big name recruits as well.

But I've also been really impressed with the work he's done for the 2010 class after NSD (not to mention how our 2011 class is shaping up and how he's laying the foundation for 2012).

Since NSD, we've picked up:

Greg Clark DT - Major position of need; might have been underrated, too, because his grades put him under the radar. He might not be All-SEC caliber, but at DT, we really are at the point of just needing bodies.

Darin Gooch C - Another major position of need, especially after what we saw in spring practice. Picked up a guy who is instantly in the 2-deep and a starting job might be his to lose as well.

Brent Brewer S - Won't beat out Jackson/Myles for a starting job, but we didn't have much depth at safety. Bringing in Brewer with Loften/Randolph/Martin(knock on wood!) is helping solve those depth issues. Plus a 22-year-old freshman could be a great leader, too.

Matt Darr P - We now have the #1 PK and #1 P in the country. 'Nuff said.

Malik Jackson DE - Similar to Brewer, he might not win a starting job this year, but our depth at DE (especially for next year) was not too good. Excellent pickup to solve depth problems and stick it to USC.

IMO, that's a really good job at finding players in our positions of need who were available for a variety of reasons (under the radar due to grades, JUCO, minor league baseball, position coach abandoned him, school was hit with sanctions). Excellent job rounding out the 2010 class, and hopefully there will be a few more flying over from LA to join Malik!

edited to add - I realize Malik and any other USC transfers aren't technically part of the 2010 recruiting class. But they are still guys that Dooley's gone out and targeted to play ball at UT in 2010.

How come I forgot about Greg Clark? Damn. Pretty good list for post-NSD.

Seems like last year, we were told no one would outwork the UT staff. No doubt, they put in the hours, as Kiffin readily reminded everyone on a few occasions.

This year, the staff appears to be keeping their heads low and going about their business. Not talking about the effort needed. Just doing it and generating results.

Just find the contrast in the two philosophies interesting.

I'm pleased with the job he has done. The OP is a great post. The good thing about it is it comes out of nowhere, so more good news could be just a day away. Hell, the season is 2 months away, just got confirmation on my UF and Bama tickets. Yay!!

I love where Dooley got brewer and darr. He just finds talent where talent would not be found, and he just pulls darr out of his ass basicly

I've certainly been impressed with what he has done over the past few months. I'm still not sold on his coaching abilities, but I really hope he does well enough to stay here a long time and build a dynasty.

Nice Post, I agree Dooley and staff aren't sitting around complaining about what we don't have, they are creatively looking for ways to fill these holes, and build depth on this team.

Oh and don't forget the TE transfer from Miami, but he will be counted on this fall as well.

I am prolly still on the fence with DD. But he did what CLK should have done last year and thats roll the dice with some of these post NSD signees. CLK kept saying he was going to do that but never did, had he done that we may not be in quite the depth problem we are in now. Odds are none of these players are going to go down as all americans much less all sec but a couple of them are bound to help.

It's been a long time since we ever had a post NSD group like this to sign. CDD and staff are working hard to fill in some depth, and key spots. Don't forget Bruce got his back-up center, too. It's just been a good summer hasn't it? Pretty much all positives.

Still, we need patience this year, but I'm getting more excited about our chances day by day. CDD and staff are a work in progress, but I sure do like what I see so far. GO VOLS!!!

I think Dooley has done a great job of filling needs for the 2010 class, but I'm not sure that it was really all that difficult of a task. We are one of the few teams in the NCAA that are in the position to load up after the signing period due to how few players we had on scholly. I am anxious to see how Dooley's first actual recruiting class turns out when he's competing for recruits against the likes of Saban, Miles, and Meyer. That will be the real test, not how many space fillers he manages to sign after Signing Day.
