Dont flame me if this has been discussed before...

Do you guys see us not getting the higher caliber players that we were able to get last year, with DD as the HC? I dont have anything against DD, but doesnt it seem like he might be timid to offer the elite players, seeing as were he came from?

so you don't think DD has ever had to recruit high profile players in his career?

Actually if you go to ESPN and look at the players who are considering us you wouldn't believe the list that have us in their Top 5. These players aren't just 2-3* players, but I'm sure a few might be, but I would say 90%+ are 4-5* players. Also within the past couple weeks I have read more and more players saying how they like the staff, program, and facilities. Kind of slow start at first, but we're actually looking pretty good now man.

I think DD will get the best players in here look we he did to save this class that was a damn near miracle.

I dont think that a player like Janzen Jackson or even Tyler Bray for that matter, would have La Tech on their list of schools.

Listen im not saying that if he doesn't get all 5* recruits and we dont land a #1 class that he is a failure. I am just saying that, do you guys think that he will be able to pull in quality players with his background?

You are probably right, I think the slow start and the closed door recruiting practices are just something new and will take a diehard like me some time to get used to. I havent see where a lot of these guys have been evaluated yet, but it is good to hear that some of them are liking the staff. Thanks for the input.:clapping:

I know that great players make great coaches. But I am hoping that Jim Chaney and Lance Thompson along with Dooley can find pieces to a system that works for us to get away from some of these 5 star head cases that could care less about that Tennessee Orange Jersey. I would be happy with some smart kids that win with discipline. Much like Boise State or even Penn State.

We have been good at winning top 5 recruiting classes but we do not have one BCS appearance in the last 10 years.

His background is pulling in two #1 and a #3 class as RC for Saban. Classes which they won a NC with. I wouldn't say that's a pretty weak background. Seriously check out who's considering us on ESPN.com. You'll be pleased.

his background as a recruiter shows he has no problem doing just that. Have you read his bio? La Tech wasn't his first job in CFB

I honestly think if we continue to get the Top 10 classes, these players will get developed.

I'm not real knowlegable on recruiting but I think DD did well this season and expect better to come.

Not a big fan of his saying he doesn't recruit current players. You don't bend over backwards for these guys but if BB or someone of his caliber needs a little reassurance, then give it to them.

Dooley is never going to give the info like CLK did. Not through press releases. Not through "leaks". We will know who he is recruiting either when they tell the world or commit.

I don't know if he's any good or not. But based on his style, I don't expect we will know for awhile. Kiffin wanted to run a circus with dancing elephants... whatever needed to get attention. Dooley runs it like a covert military operation.

I don't want to "flame" you either but just read every recruiting thread started since CDD got hired. You'r not the first one to bring this up and you won't be the last. Unfortunately.

It is similar to last year...they want to see the product on the field before they committ. We're in the hunt, just relax.

Look at Kiffen's background. He was an assistant and a major flop in the NFL. It is absolutely no better than Dooley's. We will be fine.

This is my humble take on the differences between Kiffin recruiting and Dooley recruiting. X was a big splash guy in everything he did, he walked in high school kids door and told them you will be great and I will put you in the NFL. He attracted them with the flash of who he was and who his staff was and what they could do for them because of their NFL experience. IMO he didn't take time to build relationships with the players he just went for the big slash and that was it either you commit or you don't. Dooley is different in that he is trying to build relationships and show these kids what is great about the university and what it can do for them and what is so special about being a volunteer. Sure he probably mentions that his staff will develop them into elite talent for the NFL but that is not his main pitch. Dooley's style is slower to show results but when results come they come from kids who's heart is dead set on being a vol for the right reasons.
