Down to a 9 seed/Could possibly move up to a 4 seed (merged)

I honestly think UT gets it together and DEFINETELY wins against Miss St. I think we will finish the year probably 3-1 and maybe 4-0. We still have a shot at the eastern division as UK still has a tough schedule awaiting them. If were peaking at the right time we may make a run in the SEC Tourney as well, and who knows maybe this is the year we finally win it, maybe everybody will overlook US going in to it. We still have potential to possibly get a 5 or a 6 but we have to take care of business. I really dont see anyway though that this team misses the tourney completely, it would just be a huge collapse. But can we honestly be that mad if we make it as a 9 seed? We had grown accustomed to being NIT Bound prior to Pearl, lets not forget those days, and be grateful that this type of year 5 years ago would be considered a good year.

You'd take Wake, Clemson, and Memphis over any of the #1 seeds. It makes me LOL.

In my previous post i was talking about wanting to be a 10 seed rather than an 8/9. Seeing how the comp would'nt vary that much it would be better to have a second round against a #2 seed, rather than a #1 seed. I see how you took my post, but that is the total opposite of what it implies. I would rather play the #2 seeds all day over having to play any of the #1 seeds, except for L'ville for OU.

Wow, that is a really optimistic view.

This is a bad team. I don't see how we DEFINITELY beat anyone and don't think we go 3-1 to finish the year. I don't see any way possible we go 4-0 to finish and to win the SEC tourney is beyond comprehension as well.

Not trying to bash, but I just think you have been sipping a little too much orange kool aide.

I hope you are right though.

I think we make the big dance, but will lose in the first or second round depending on who we have to play. If we make it past round two I will be shocked regardless of who we play.

This team is really hard to watch. It is almost painful.

This team doesn't know who is going to show up game to game, much less we the fans. I can hope for the best but we will probably split our last four games, and win 1 in the tourney. I am not picking which games though because it's impossible to say. We could win at Fla and lose at home to Bama, or vise verse. Who really knows with these guys?

Have you watched the last 2 games? Blown out by an NIT bound Ole Miss and a good but not great Kentucky team. What have they shown you that suddenly they are going to turn it on and win 3 of the last 4 or the last 4?

I'm not saying it can't happen but good lord, you certainly can't tell me after watching the last 2 games that they seem like they're on the brink of a breakout. If anything, they are going the opposite way. They didn't even show up for Kentucky, their biggest rival AND a team that had already embarrassed them earlier in the season.

It's not like they can snap their fingers and suddenly figure out issues that have plagued them all season. We're still talking about problems that were seen in December. Reading the reports, Pearl has tried about everything to get them to respond and obviouly nothing is working.

I hope they make the tournament and they obviously still can, but let's not act like they resemble anything like a team that is running like a well oiled machine.

My predicition, one and done either way. . .just don't have much confidence in this team against other tournament teams. . .hope I'm wrong

If we were to get into the NIT, we'd be a 1 seed. That would basically put us up against a cream puff at home. No way we lose that.

this is a serious question and not meant to be sarcastic. Ok here goes. Why all the emphasis on making the big dance? Does anyone really believe we have the ability to make a run deep into the tourney field? I think if we somehow get there and we are a 8,9,10 seed we are gone on the first night anyway. How does one and done help our program except put a little jingle in the Athletic Departments pocket? Does this type of performance help our recruiting in any way other than a footnote that we have X number of years of going to the tournament?

I'd almost rather see us go to the NIT and possibly win it and have something to salvage this most disappointing season. Maybe in the NIT we could keep playing and all the extra practice days could help us for next year.

Because making the NCAAT gives your program credibility. It's not like UT's program is some NCAAT vet or anything.

Also, a spot in the NCAAT is better than winning the NIT, no question about it. Winning the NIT is worthless IMHO. I mean yeah, if they made it I'd hope they win, but it gains out less than just simply making the NCAA. I don't care how slim it is, I'd rather have at least a shot at the Big Dance than an NIT championship.

Not to mention IF they did win the NIT Championship, most of us would be asking "Where was that effort when it mattered?"

VolSportsFan,

I completely agree. For some teams around the country, the goal of their entire season is to make it into the tournament. For many players, that is the greatest highlight of their careers, and it is deserved.

The NIT aka "Not In Tournament" is worthless and if we dont make the big dance, our season is an utter failure

Agh, sorry. I misunderstood your post... thought you were saying that you'd take Wake and Clemson over Oklahoma.

:eek:k:...I think thats also what Dickens was thinking. And I can see how people would take it that way.

As of right now I think we have to be considered a 5 seed.
Although,We take care of Bama and do well in the SEC tourney and we could easily be a 4 seed.

I think if we do well in the conf tourney we will be a solid five, a four would be awesome, but i think we'd have to win the tournament to even be considered a four -- either way, great time for this team to come together

I'd say we are a 6 right now, but win the tourney and I agree with our resume and SOS I think a 4 isn't out of the question!

Remember Bruces first year when everyone thought we would be a 4 or 5 seed maaaaybe a 3 and we got a 2 seed! anything can happen!

LSU, if it wins the SEC tourney, could get to around a 5, I suppose. But no other SEC team should be above a 7, IMO. The league is really awful this year.

i agree with you, but i think tn is sitting around a 7 or a 6 seed right now and with a good run in the SEC tourney, they make a 5 and possibly a 4 (if they win). i think tn ends up with the highest seeding in the SEC because of their SOS and RPI ranking. LSU may get seeded just as high, but, in the end, i don't think they will be higher.

A lot depends on what happens next weekend, obviously.

By the way, congrats on winning the SECE. I am particularly impressed with the way that the team seems to be improving down the stretch, higher intensity, better focus.

Unlike some other teams that shall remain nameless.
