GREAT RECRUITING WEEK...1st the DB from GA committed, now 2 big ol boys commit! Now we need another week like this before the season begins! Kerbyson and Martin would be great pickups...My #1 for us to get is Richardson, but he has already said he will wait til NSD to announce! Question though for some of you 'insiders', I know we have already signed C. Harris, but where are the other LB's...We need at least 2 more solid pickups at that position since Frazier and Thompson are seniors!

We haven't signed anyone yet. Its all verbals at this point. Gotta wait to February to get the signatures. They are looking at a lot of LB's. Just click on the recruiting forum, read the threads, and enjoy. :good!:

I'm definitely with you on Crowder. Downs I'm not so sure about becoming a 4* but if he does that wouldn't surprise me. I'd love to see both of these guys become 4*s

Downs is highly underrated. He will be a beast no matter if he is recognized by rivals first or not

Was at the West-TN High scrimmage were West absolutely dominated. Big suprise, Tn High did not score until late in the scrimmage on a wheel route and a blown coverage by West.

Crowder did not impress. However, Downs did. Downs reminds me of Aaron Douglas. Seems he could add some weight and play as an atletic tackle.

It's my first post but I've been reading for a couple years now. It seems like I remember reading that Crowder will enroll early. Is this true and what about Downs? Great to have these two. GBO!

EDIT: Just saw the discussion in the Downs thread.

Great pickups! Not sure what the negativity is all about...welcome aboard guys!

No negativity, just calling like I saw it. Early game, 3-4 defense, etc... If I can, I will share the vid. We have a double cameras, close and wide.

The best player on the field was sophomore from West Josh Davenport. Keep an eye out for him. Unbelievable 70 yard TD run.

Since it was a scrimmage, I have to ask if it was against the starting TN high defense?

Also, I know you are saying Crowder wasn't too terribly impressive, but I have a couple of points that I think may temper your perspective: 1) It is easy to tell when a center is doing a bad job, but when he does a good job it will normal go without notice, 2) It was a scrimmage, which has no bearing on the season, against a farily uncommon defensive front. This could've caused a few busted plays for an O Line that is not used to playing against it.

So yes this Nationally ranked Center with 15 offers during this first-of-the-year scrimmage, in an extremely important key position,

One poster on here said Crowder wan't too impressive. Well You are stupid.

Crowder was extremely impressive. I watched him from the time he walked on the field. Here’s what I saw. Cameras, media, and reporter(s) asking him questions, taking photos, and asking him to demonstrate snaps while he was being filmed. The rest of the team, except Downs who was experiencing similar activity, was preparing mentally for the scrimmage and getting ready to play. Obviously a serious distraction and new experience for both these young men. The scrimmage started without Crowder who was still busy with reporters.

Then when Crowder went into the scrimmage late and probably mentally distracted he provided snap after snap on-time, without error, with lightning speed to the quarterback, followed by a quick step into his opponent faster than I’ve ever seen a high school center. The first two series Crowder did not pancake or drive his opponent into oblivion. But what he did was control his opponent effectively and move him backwards to open a run lane. Not one single play did his opponent, who is also one of the top DL in the state, win the battle. Not one play.

After two series and after watching him seemingly settle in from all the media excitement on this BIG ANNOUNCEMENT DAY Crowder soon became without question the most dominant lineman on the field, even to someone with an untrained eye. While most linemen were battling at the line of scrimmage Crowder began to completely dominate his defensive opponents who found themselves going backwards 10 and 15 yards down the field and Crowder continued to drive them all the way through the blowing of the whistle and then finishing his block with a final push off.

Oh and defensively, which we are not recruiting Crowder for, every play the Knox West linemen tried an ineffective cut block on Crowder. Every play. And Every play Defensively Crowder won the battle. His opponents didn’t run his direction so he didn’t get the chance to impress at the position. He only played defense two short series.

So yes this Nationally ranked Center with 15 offers during this first-of-the-year scrimmage, in an extremely important key position, was flawless and dominant even with all the Big Media attention on the Big Announcement Day. I think he will start for us his first year if he can put on about 15 pounds between now and August 2011. We just picked up the best Center in the country

This should be fun.

This is extreme hyperbole. I saw the two play last year. Downs is much better than Crowder IMO.

Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic I'd like to see how a guy on the street comes to that conclusion.

There are at least 5 linemen on an 11 man offensive squad not counting the TE. There is usually 1 TE, maybe 2. Taking that into account Mack gets approx 15 offers from guys who do this for a living and have twice as many OLs to choose from and Brendan gets roughly 5 from the same population of coaches.

I know that that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to think for yourself but I don't get "better" much less the "much better" part.

My own two cents worth here... Brendan had 8 passes thrown to him last year so there's very little to work with there and usually blocks a DE or LB. A ton of upside no doubt, heck I love the guy but in that conf the DEs and LBs half the time are under 200lbs. So....

Mack will almost always have the biggest DL on his nose or shoulder and those guys are rarely under 250lbs.
The center has to make the line calls, plus a good center will also usually make a damn good guard.

Just my thinking from a family history of OL play. My dad played center for Bear Bryant at the Univ of Kentucky. My brother played center at Austin Peay. I played just a little TE with Mack's dad so I don't count and am like you lookin' in from the outside.

Break it down and I'm sure I'll learn somethin'

Once Mack gets on a collegiate training program and bulks up, he's gonna be nasty. He has a mean streak in him, from what I see in the videos. Hiestand teaches the technique, Wylie puts about 30 pounds on him without any sacrifice in agility...he's going to be monstrous
