Monte's not. Lane is. I was a tag along on a postgame plane back from a road trip game. Monte talked the whole time and was enjoyable to speak to. Lane acted like a dick to the owner of the plane on a couple of occasions. And we had won.
To be honest, I think that dude hated Tennessee compared to SoCal. He was probably pissed that he had to go back to Ktown and hear his wife complain about it.

oye...

Q: Are we, as a fan base, ever going to get over Lane Kiffin??

A: Only when we start winning.

Most people hate Kiffin for the aftermath of what he left behind, and it doesn't matter if any of us on VN ever had a single interaction with him. He may be a nice guy for all I know, but I will always loathe him for setting the program back a good 5 years minimum for the way he left.

Lane Kiffin was a good coach (possibly even a great coach) who torpedoed our program by leaving us when he did and allowing his coaching minions (Orgeron) to try and take players recruited to UT as they were leaving and at such a late date in the recruiting process. As a direct result he put Derek Dooley behind the 8-ball going in to this job.

How can any orange-blooded UT fan ever overlook or totally forgive such an malicious assault to their program?!

So to summarize: the real Lane Kiffin is not a jerk, but the plan (concocted and enacted with UT's approval) was to "act" like a jerk while at UT, because being a jerk was a prerequisite for recruiting at UT-- unlike recruiting at USC, where he can be the nice guy he really is because jerkdom is not embraced there. Any takers?

BTW, I think Doyel is a jerk. Ya think he's just acting?

Exactly right.

How was the flight from Lexington to Knoxville in 09? UK was the only road game that we won that year you clown. They bus to Lexington. Nice try.

It is 3 hours from Knox to Lex on the ground. Why would they fly?

He left for his dream job. EVERYONE(with a little common sense) knew he'd leave for USC, noone figured it'd be that soon. Get over it

I got over Lane Kiffin by February 2010. He's gone. Hating him is a waste of your time because it changes nothing.

How long was the flight?
