The hard part for some of us older UT fans is we remember when we used to get that deference. Deference is earned, and we had earned it back then. Now much less so. In the eyes of alot of people outside our fanbase, we had "a good year" last year, and most P5 teams have a "a good year" every decade and a half or so. To get that deference back we are going to have to sustain success. It doesn't sit well with me but there's a pretty sharp distinction between us and the Alabama & Georgia's of the world in the sustained success department this century.Agreed. But then again, how far did Georgia drop last year after struggling against Kent State? I realize of course that pollsters will not give UT the same deference
In fairness, UGA was the defending national champs and had destroyed a top 10 Oregon and had toyed with South Carolina. Additionally, UGA didn't really struggle with Kent State. Kent was out-gained 529 to 281 managed 14 first downs as opposed to giving up 29 and lost the time of possession by 14 minutes.Agreed. But then again, how far did Georgia drop last year after struggling against Kent State? I realize of course that pollsters will not give UT the same deference
How is Ohio State going to drop as many spots or more for beating Youngstown by 28 as Bama is for losing by 10?Yeah but Tex was a highly ranked team. There is zero chance Bama falls from #3 out of the top 10. Bama was the only team in the top 18 to lose. You gonna put them at #19 just because they lost?
Look at all the teams in the top 10 and how they are playing. Tennessee could easily drop 3 spots after winning because all the other teams played so much better. Ive seen both OSU games this year and they are not playing well like a top 10 team. USC, PSU, Texas and maybe even ND are all playing better than OSU. I can easily see them going from 5 to 8 and that would still be the case even if Bama had not lost. How is Ohio State going to drop as many spots or more for beating Youngstown by 28 as Bama is for losing by 10?
We likely drop to 11. Bama likely drops to 9. Ohio State is not going to drop 5 spots for winning.Look at all the teams in the top 10 and how they are playing. We may drop a bit but I wonder how much attention (outside of our fan base) the game actually got. I suspect most voters were watching TX-bama and our game wasn’t on any networks. Some voters may see 30-13 and not bother to go back and actually watch (at least I hope)
