Im not sure how this whole idea works so can a coach drop a commitment for a better player???

If so, who would our coaches drop if we were get committments from more than 10 players left on our board, (assuming these players are of the caliber of James Stone, Jeff Luc, Cody Riggs etc..)

I am glad you asked. I was thinking the same thing. I know nothing is final until the LOI is signed. Either party can back out at anytime before that though. Not sure who the coaches would let go if better talent wants to play for UT.

I know you can pull a scholarship from a player but you would probably have to give a reason (player doesn't "fit into system")

P.S. Selling 4 UT-FL tickets together on lower level for $600

You won't see commitments turned away from this point on because of a player not fitting the system. Those were all Fulmer commits last year. If they didn't fit the system, they wouldn't be offered in the first place.

My dad took me to the 1998 Rose Bowl with #1 Michigan (Nebraska would have stomped them) and Washington State (Yes, there is still 3 seconds on the clock). We had decent seats and they were $75 bucks each. It's amazing to me how much tickets have risen. Especially for regular season games.

It's bad form to make offers you don't intend on honoring after they have committed... Serious fuel for negative recruiting. How could a kid trust the coaches in the future?

I don't think the staff would've taken a commit from any of our players unless they thought they were one the best.

I want to buy into this but we offered Brunetti. He doesn't fit the system. I would take Bray all day long over him. Even Rettig (I'm not sure when we finally offered him). I watched Brunetti on ESPN High School showcase and really wasn't even all that impressed. He must have some tools, but I'm glad things turned out they did with Bray.

They had to have seen something in Brunetti to offer. They won't offer a player who they feel has no chance to contribute.

Schools cannot pull scholarships from players once they have committed. They can encourage them in another direction by telling them things like they won't play. It is a rule setup to protect the players. Likewise the players have no real commitment to the University until they sign LOI......so the answer to your question is NO...we can't pull a scholarship offer...(unless the player does something detrimental to the university or fails to qualify)

I wonder if it has to do with "the fence" around the state and trying to get into Memphis. I don't know who is left around there, but if there is one, I hope we can get him. Wasn't Maclin (LSU commit) from Memphis?

Verbal commitments are non-binding, and that goes both ways. A coach can pull a player's offer for any reason as long as he remains unsigned. Of course, it makes a coach look really bad to pull an offer to someone who committed earlier, which is why that almost never happens.

Yeah like matt said as long as everything is verbal its free game but obviously its frowned upon and recruits see that.

I have a friend thats a manager and he said that Brunetti had the best arm of all the quarterbacks he saw at camps this summer...just that his height was too big of an issue. it would be interesting to see 6'6'' Bray and a generously 6'0'' Brunetti competing for the starting job in 2011 though

Didn't Suprrier do this when he went to South Carolina? You can rest assured that other schools recruiting against you would bring it up to every recruit in every livingroom.

I would watch for Pair, Broussard, and Meline. Maybe Copeland, but he seems solid. I do think we will end up losing a guy or 2 before NSD but will replace them...

Just curious, why include Meline since he just committed? Who do you think could cause him to waiver?

Also, is it going to matter for Broussard? Have his chances of qualifying improved?
