Duck Ball & Vol Reads

I saw that too and felt the same as you. BUT BUT BUT, also noted it was just a few posters and it was at their place and we are just as guilty of pride in our team. So ignored because the bulk of whati've seen as I nosed around Oregon boards and such indicates the UO folks are just plain nice. We got Vols fans who do the same. case in point: The Downfall of Oregon begins Sep.14 - YouTube

Can't fault them for having as much pride in their team as we do in ours. But yeah, I too want to see us return the favor of a beat down at their home.

they are 24 or 25 point favorites, at home, against a team without a winning season since 2009.

what would you think if you were them?

Like any university, we've got our jerk fans as well. Usually newbie bandwagon fans. We try and educate them, get them a little more sophisticated etc. I will say, we do have a few universities who's fans we rarely have civil conversations with..... puppy taildraggers come to mind, keep them off grannies leg, away from the white carpet and spread the newspapers if you have to let one in the house.........

I do want to say thank you for your post. And I've always given Tenn a lot of credit for being one of the few SEC teams willing to play on the West Coast in OOC games.

Hopefully, we return to the days when even Steve Spurrier admonished his Fla player that Tennessee isn't afraid of anybody. I recall Alabama once gave USC a shot. USC had that RB called James White or something who ran roughshod over Bama at their own home. Thereafter, Bama shied away from scheduling PAC-10 teams. But Tennessee kept playing, mostly UCLA. So you may have something there.

Yeah that's perception... Game is played on the field.. Things could go as such Tennessee puts a scare in them anyway.. Sprinkle in some actual coaching and this team may surprise some folks.. They're not going to win the East, but they may end up beating a team or two they have no business beating..

?????????????? I don't think I condemned anybody. Fans are fans, some are actually civilized. Far as I'm concerned, it's a game we could win despite all the odds. Matter of fact, I'm slowly, very slowly beginning to think our odds are improving. Besides, I prefer seeing Tennessee refusing to back down from playing anybody no matter what. I never forgave Hambone for backing out of the UNC game. It was humiliating, and compounded when Spurrier jibbed, "My, oh my. How things have changed on Rockytop. You won't play NC because they're too good for you?" So I say, return Tennessee to the days we put up our dukes and dared you to hit us first.

i'm not going to argue perception or not.

what i am pretty sure of is that if tennessee had been winning 10 or more ball games a season over the last several years and were pre season top 5 entering the year, most people would easily dismiss the prospects of a team coming off of three losing seasons (who lost its most productive talent) coming into neyland stadium and challenging tennessee.

i know i would.

i'm just saying that i wouldn't go bashing oregon's fan base for making statements thinking the game will be an easy win without thinking about it from their point of view.

sorry, if i misinterpreted your post. i thought you were upset that an oregon fan thought the game would be a blowout.

If you live in TN, and you don't drink the 'shine, then you're not a Tennessean.

They're not stereotypes if they're true.

i do in fact drink moonshine, but my 90 Bronco is NOT rusted, and I don't have a sister.

I might, on occasion, fit into some Oregon stereotypes as well.

I'm just sayin, just because you're from oregon, doesn't mean you're a hippie.

haha

Oregon fans are certainly some of the nicest, but I think that could change if they were in our division and we played them every year.

Yea, that's probably true, we had a great relationship with Colorado before they joined the PAC-12 going back to when Ed Reinhardt of Colorado was seriously injured during a game at Autzen. The communities, families and universities came together to help the Reinhardt family. Since Colorado joined the PAC-12 things have gotten a bit more competitive, still the bond is there for many of us who, like myself were at that game in 1984 when Ed got hurt.

Gator, I think I udnerstand your earlier posted response to my post now. Please read it again. I didn't put down UO's fanbase, exactly the opposite as a matter of fact. But I gave an example to a poster who just mentioned after seeing some prideful statements by UO fans that we were just as guilty of the same. The video was an example. But in no way echoes my attitude about UO fans. I think they are as a whole, one cool bunch and hope we continue our home and home series with them.

It pains me to agree with Gator but you do have to look at it from another teams standpoint and not to mention they handed the vols a big loss in K-town..... That being said you get the sense UT is headed back to the days that made us spoiled in the first place....Ill keep driving the 3 hrs on saturdays and sitting in good ol section O where our family has been since 1964. And no matter who we play that day i will be pulling for TENNESSEE and the guys who strap on the power T. And yes the Oregon fans were a class bunch i met when they were in K-town so good luck and wish i could be in Autzen stadium !!!! Here is to a new season and GO VOLS !

Some of our opponents are the enemy for just one day, game day. We know who our perennial enemies are. I like it when the Ducks beat those private school snobs usc and stanford !

Oregon fans are awesome. Some of the coolest most laid back folks I've ever met. I remember sitting next to some Ducks fans in Neyland a few years back ( you know, the tornado game) and they had shirts that said "we hate Kiffin too" haha. Good people.

I love how people assume all the Oregon fans smoke herb, just because they are from Oregon.

On the same token, I bet they all think we drink moonshine and beat our sisters in our rusted pickup.

Stereotypes make me laugh.
My sister is rusted and I beat my truck.

I remember Oregon fans hunkering in our car in 2011 during the second flood of Noah...cool people with nothing but great things to say about Knoxville and the Vols. They loved the tradition because lets face it...they have none. :)

Oregon fans were fantastic when they came to Knoxville in 2010. My favorite was a bunch I ran into in the concourse waiting for the torrential flood to pass wearing "We hate Lane Kiffin too" tshirts

I remember seeing those shirts as well. I spoke with several Duck fans that day, all were nice people. Some traveled from Alaska for the game. I do recall how the rock was painted that day too...wish that had been a friendlier message for our OOC visitors.

I had forgot about them...but instantly knew where I watched the game, not Neyland, but at a friends house. Weird.

LOL...I just remember being so depressed and sick to my stomach.

I lived in the Memphis area at the time.
I don't fear hell when I die.
Already been there after that game.

Enjoyed them at the game and RV camping down on the river. Grabbed tix on street and sat in Oregon section upper deck. Fan next to me bought and wore 2 or 3 UT items in the 2nd half.

Good time ... bad 2nd half.

My Dad used to work with a guy who was good friends with a former Oregon coach (can't remember for the life of me right now who it was...). Anyways, we ended up sitting on like the 3rd row smack dab in the middle of the Oregon fan section for the game in Knoxville a few years back. The Oregon fans were some of the nicest people I've ever met and I had a fantastic time sitting with all of the them, as much as that sounds like blasphemy. Definitely the best fans outside of Tennessee.

You must not hang out with many stoners. They are some of the most laid back, nicest people on the planet.

Yes they are or seem to be nice people that like to party, I see they have us set up for a early or 12:30pdt game time, as we did to them with having a late game.

I did get a bit tired of the OOOOOOOOOOOO their fans seem to roar when they was at Calhoun's.
