I don't have much of a comeback for any of you ABCers, other than this: Defending National Champions!

Has a "defending" national champion ever not made the tourny the year after the NC title run? That is what is looking like for the Heels. Love it

Actually, I think Florida failed to make the tourney after their last title win. Also, when was the last time Duke was relevant? Don't book your Final Four trip just yet.

I would consider making the tourney every year, winning the ACC 8 out of the last 11 seasons is pretty dang relevant. With that being said, I am not stupid enough to think this team will win the NC. I expect them to go no further than the elite 8 or sweet 16.

I was referring to relevant on a national scale. Outside of Dick Vitale, Seth Davis, etc. who has been praising Duke as a team to be reckoned with? Anyone? I'll give you a Sweet Sixteen berth, but that's pushing it. They're consistently ranked highly, yet they consistently fall on their faces when it gets to March/April. Nobody is scared of Duke anymore. The aura and mystique is gone. Enjoy last nights win, most likely another win to come in Durham as well. Might even meet up in the ACC tourney, which would probably have a similar result. Beyond this season, don't get too comfortable. :)

Apparently no one is scared of UNC this year, either. Bottom of the barrel ACC record proves this.

It'll come back as soon as they get more athletes...and it's not like Duke is going to get any worse next year

I'm not saying that Duke will get worse next year. I'm asking if they're going to get any better. IMO, they peaked when Battier, Duhon, and Jason Williams were there. Since then, it seems to be the same thing, year after year. Pre-Season Top 10, come out of the gate like lions, close out the season like lambs. Similar roster builds: a couple of decent wings, average to poor PG, bunch of stiffs in the paint.

Why would anyone be scared of them this year? They were overrated in the Pre-Season polls, and have fallen swiftly over the past month. This is an anomaly, not a trend.

Will Avery was actually good, he does not belong w/ those other names.

Yes. He drove K nuts, but he could play. The slew of white guys generally couldn't.

This team is big and unathletic. Most of the recent ones have just been unathletic. Still have no PG and Singler is the most overrated player in years.

They aren't as weak as years past, but not built to win because they can't defend the perimeter. They. Won't be the easy out people are expecting. Their size and shooting can beat anybody. Their reliance on the 3 can get them beaten any night.

Comparing Kyrie to Paulus is ridiculous.

If Singler stays, which he should, Duke's starting 5 will be just fine.

I wasn't making a direct comparison between Paulus and Irving, just a generalized example of recruits going to Duke that have not panned out for one reason or another. Irving is the top 1 or 2 PG in the class, depending on which site you look at. He SHOULD be a good one, and perhaps will solve their lack of solid PG play. However, Duke's same problems seem to carry over, regardless of the recruits. I don't foresee Duke being worse next year, but I see no evidence that they'll be appreciably better. That's been their M.O. for several years now. They've become to basketball what Ohio State is to football.

Ahh I see. My fault. And yes I agree, to a degree. I think next year's team should be much better though with a true point guard. It's been a while since Duhon. And Paulus, well I won't even go there. :ill_h4h:
