Has a "defending" national champion ever not made the tourny the year after the NC title run? That is what is looking like for the Heels. Love it
Actually, I think Florida failed to make the tourney after their last title win. Also, when was the last time Duke was relevant? Don't book your Final Four trip just yet.
I would consider making the tourney every year, winning the ACC 8 out of the last 11 seasons is pretty dang relevant. With that being said, I am not stupid enough to think this team will win the NC. I expect them to go no further than the elite 8 or sweet 16.
I was referring to relevant on a national scale. Outside of Dick Vitale, Seth Davis, etc. who has been praising Duke as a team to be reckoned with? Anyone? I'll give you a Sweet Sixteen berth, but that's pushing it. They're consistently ranked highly, yet they consistently fall on their faces when it gets to March/April. Nobody is scared of Duke anymore. The aura and mystique is gone. Enjoy last nights win, most likely another win to come in Durham as well. Might even meet up in the ACC tourney, which would probably have a similar result. Beyond this season, don't get too comfortable.

It'll come back as soon as they get more athletes...and it's not like Duke is going to get any worse next year
Will Avery was actually good, he does not belong w/ those other names.
Comparing Kyrie to Paulus is ridiculous.
If Singler stays, which he should, Duke's starting 5 will be just fine.
I wasn't making a direct comparison between Paulus and Irving, just a generalized example of recruits going to Duke that have not panned out for one reason or another. Irving is the top 1 or 2 PG in the class, depending on which site you look at. He SHOULD be a good one, and perhaps will solve their lack of solid PG play. However, Duke's same problems seem to carry over, regardless of the recruits. I don't foresee Duke being worse next year, but I see no evidence that they'll be appreciably better. That's been their M.O. for several years now. They've become to basketball what Ohio State is to football.
