This team might be historically good. There's a decent chance they run the table. Or maybe I'm really stupid.

In my estimation the last truly elite college basketball team was (and please pretty please correct me if you believe I'm overlooking anything glaring here) probably the 1999 Duke team that lost in the finals.*

Thoughts?

*A good buddy of mine, who is a Duke grad and a diehard fan, will argue until he is blue in the face that the 1999 Duke team is coach K's best ever. I've heard the argument made so many times and with such absolute conviction that I've accepted it as fact. We actually had our annual '96 UK vs. '99 Duke discussion just a couple nights ago.**

**As any reasonable person in our age range should, he'll concede the top "in our lifetime" slot to '91 Vegas.

This Duke team has no games against any team currently ranked in the top 25. Just heard that little tidbit.

They are a good sight better than anyone else in that league, I doubt they go unblemished but they'll finish the season ranked number one and a top seed in the tourney again unless they get a lot of injuries or just collapse mentally, however that isn't a trait associated with Coach K teams. Incidentally my buddy (a Michigan fan) and myself both agree that Coach K is likely the best coach in the country; he never misses the tourney, he's done more with less than anyone and he'll easily surpass Dean Smith in every relevant coaching statistic by the time he retires.

I'm as big of a Duke hater as anybody, but no doubt that Coach K is easily in the argument for best coach in the game. I've always wondered how he would do in the pros, though I doubt we'll ever see it.

I don't see them running the table though, they'll have a bad game or two.

Yeah, I think they're very good as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see them lose only 1-2.

I wish UT would play Duke so we'd beat them and everyone would shutup about Duke.

And should we, by some unfathomable miracle, lose?

Not even a possibility, or it would have been addressed.

This Duke team is special. As one analyst said, "Give coach K 4 (at least) first round picks, he's going to have the best team in the nation."

1. '92 is K's best Duke team and it really isn't close.
2. This team isn't as good as '86, '92, '99, or '01.

Vegas was better in '90 than they were in '91. They lost a whole bunch of toughness with Scurry and Butler gone.

No doubt about that. People are blinded by the (unbelievable) fact that all five starters went in the first 29 picks of the draft that year.

I'm the biggest Duke homer on here and I agree they're really good. They are benefiting from a weaker college basketball this season. There just isn't a lot of great teams.

Best teams of the 64 Team era (1985):

90 UNLV
92 Duke
96 UK
85 Georgetown
05 UNC

2005 UNC?

Ok, I'm fairly certain that the above list is the result of you going to a website, copying a computer ranking of teams, and pasting it into this post. No, check that, I'm substantially certain.

I'm not even sure '05 UNC is better than '05 Illinois.

(Yes, I know they beat them, but I thought that Illinois had the better team)
