Dylan Sampson left off ESPN's midseason Heisman Watch

It should be Ashton Jeanty's to lose but he doesn't play for Oklahoma or Alabama. It seems like they have already chosen Travis Hunter as the winner thanks to The Sanders Effect.
I'm no Sanders fan but Hunter should win. Performs well on both offense and defense. How many players can even start on both sides of the ball, much less perform like he does?

Once the tape is turned on, Sampson will get rewarded by NFL scouts on draft day. But unfortunately, Jeantry from Boise state is stealing all the attention from a recognition perspective. Of course I'm biased, but Sampson to me is the better prospect.

12 players on the list including TWO from Bama. Sampson's 15 TD's have him in rare territory right now. Pitt's RB Desmond Reid made the list and he has 3 TD's and 200+ less yards than Sampson. Typical ESPN bias..
Genty has nearly double the yards (and YPC). Reid got 1 vote, so doesn't even really matter.

TD are Sampson's "reason". Unfortunately that's not enough.

*if there was a Vol to be considered, it's ABSOLUTELY Sampson.

Just because a player wins the Heisman doesn't mean he's not a team player
Good Morning Bernard King of the Volunteers! Didn't mean to imply that at all. However, the hype surrounding a potential Heisman Trophy candidate on a team can be quite divisive, so I would prefer to have a team of players that does not have one superstar that garners all (most of) the attention from the media. A running back is nothing without his linemen, who sometimes, deserve the same or perhaps more praise than the running back. And a QB without good WRs is nothing. This is just my observation mind you, but I hope we never have a serious Heisman candidate roaming the Hill. I would love it though if Fiddy National Champions roamed the Hill!

It’s because Pitt is undefeated. If we keep winning, Sampson will make the list.

Good. I hate the Heisman. Never have watched the presentation or fell prey to all the BS and hype.

Give me a group of players where they work together and don't have a superstar (hmmm, '98 team sound familiar????)
This. The Heisman is the silliest award in sports. Thousands of kids across the US play D-1 football. Based on those odds there’s a solid chance they’ve never gotten it right.

Sampson is carrying the VOLS offense single-handed.

All things equal and he’s playing on another team like LSU, AL, GA, or even ND with a disastrous offense, he at least makes this list.

Win this game and he makes the list

Who cares? And if you do care, why? It's not the best player, it's who is the most popular. Look at the record of "the best player in college". Half the time they are a bust in the NFL. I'd trade all the heistman trophy's for a win on Saturday.

The reality is that if our Vol’s had an offensive line anywhere close to what was projected, Sampson would likely be one of the top 3 Hypesman candidates. His YPC average would be at least 2 to 3 yards higher than it is now. That guy is doing really good just to have the yards and YPC he has at the moment. With a decent OL we’d know just how special he is. The OL is killing him, the entire offense, and Nico.

No way a guy from Boise St is going to win the Heisman. Nobody east of the Rockies has seen him play. ESPN will have to put on a huge push for that to happen. Ward and Hunter are probably the true frontrunners followed by Milroe and Dillon. If Tex keeps it up look for Ewers to enter the picture. UT can put an end to Milroe's chances on Saturday.
I have seen Jeanty play twice on TV and I live in Tennessee. He is the real deal and totally deserving.
