Early Signs of Bad Fans...Signs of good coaching

See 95% of all other threads. Let the coaches coach, get some talent in here, and let em do their thing. There is a reason those guys coach, those kids play, and we watch the game drinking coke zero and talking about that one time we made a tackle. Here are the positives I'm seeing, and please add to the list.

- Players who are legitimately angry if they don't perform.
- 15 turnovers for the D. 16 all of last year.
- Much Much Much improved running game.
- Less stupid and crippling penalties
- Top 3 recruiting class(so far)

First paragraph I translate as blah, blah, blah, blame fans because they actually expected Butch to coach his players well enough to beat South Albama by more than 7 points. Yep, totally unreasonable to think we should beat a team like that fairly easily.

Now to your points:

1. Agreed

2. Mostly luck that WKY played so poorly. That game accounted for six TOs. But yes, an approved area.

3.Much improved running game. Wouldn't give it the two extra much's.

4. Agreed, but discipline broke down last game. Coach needs to stay on top of it.

5. Last time I checked, NSD was in February. We can talk about how well he recruits after he actually gets their signatures on a LOI.

Call me negative, I don't mind. I consider myself realistic. I hope Butch turns everything around, but I'm still waiting on tangible evidence. When that comes, I'll credit it to him. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and I don't give credit that has yet to be earned. I am a Vol fan, not a Butch Jones fan. I don't yell "good call coach!" to my TV, I yell "Touchdown Tennessee!". While I understand the program is down, I still want to win. Wanting to win does not make you a bad fan. I can understand losses to teams like UGA, Bama, and USCjr,(don't like them but understand them) but we should blow the doors off a team like South Alabama.

Good points. Here's what I think about those games.

Game 1 no problem with letting Worley playing the entire game. It's the 1st game for him in a new system and he needs every snap he can get.

Game 2 UT didn't put it out of reach until the end of the 3rd quarter when they went up 45-20... and only then did Worley complete (I'm pretty sure) 7 passes for 105 yards... then he comes out and throws a pick before finally scoring a TD. Is he really good enough to let a backup come in? I think he needed more practice.

Game 3 one can argue your point. You can either use it as practice or say "guys you're not coming out until we get things figured out". Butch went with the 2nd option of giving the starters every oppurtunity to get the ship righted.

Game 4 your best point on playing a QB with zero game experience. However the same thing could be said about Ainge and Shaeffer in o4 and we see how they turned out. Either way it's a questionable call, one that is a judgement call and it backfired. We can't let the end justify the means.

Game 5 how does the QB playing bad and the team not executing on one play equate bad coaching decisions? Also, how does a missed FG (regardless of the odd way it happened) destroy a kickers confidence?

The last time I ck'd everyone wants to win. Do you have any idea as to why the USA game was close? Do you have a reasonable understanding for your statement "the program is down" or is it "talking points" from reading Adams et al.

1. Program being down ... after 4 yrs of avg to below avg recruiting,we do not have the quality athletes in all positions as we once did. Kiffin's class are mostly gone. We have an extremely young and inexperienced team which are prone to make mistakes as any young or inexperienced team or players will make.... Program being down Explain, using your realistic logic, how the current coaches are responsible for this.

2. Why the Fla game went south and the USA game was close. In both games, the offense had turnovers. Those turnovers allowed the USA team back in the game. Your realistic logic clamors that it is the coach's fault. The reality of the situation is that inexperienced players make mistakes. There is a reason why most established programs have very few freshmen playing. We have 14 playing regularly and more having playing time.

negavol maybe maybe not however like a lot of VN'ers, it is a lot easier to throw bombs and talking pts and claim realism than to investigate the real situation at hand.

sorry i screwed up the quote link but this was to Weezer

The team needs fan support most during the down years.

Being a fan when we are winning is easy.

Fans need to stay tough during the bad times when the truly team needs the emotional lift.

Positives accentuated by butch in today's press conference include the following:

"Rajion Neal had the most yards rushing by a running back at Tennessee since 2009, he had 169 yards. This football team, Team 117 has had three 200-plus yard rushing games. We had three combined from the span 2010-2012. We currently lead the SEC and we are eighth in the country in fewest penalties, a little over three penalties per game. We lead the SEC and we are fourth in the country in fewest penalty yardage. We are tied for number one in the country for interceptions with 11. We lead the SEC and we are third in the country with 15 forced turnovers. We lead the SEC and we are tenth in the country with points off of turnovers" (Jones Week 6 Press Conference - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics).

btw, that fg was actually blocked by the holder. This play is actually case and point about young, inexperienced players making some incredible mistakes. There is absolutely nothing a coach can do, teach, or say that would have prevented that unique play. I will bet a lot of money that the holder will never make that mistake again. While I am on my soapbox, Worley is inexperienced at qb. Although he had game experience, apparently there was never any follow up by the previous staff to correct the mistakes Worley was making then because he is making the same mistakes now. This whole situation is similar to Crompton and his amazing transforming at QB from Worley performance to competing performace.

Their are no bandwagon fans left here despite what the self appointed fan police try to imply to some.
