East Tennessee Weather II

It’s not the schools’ job to babysit kids.

No, but it is their job to provide an education, which is hard to do when they are closed.

It's also naive to discount that many families have to make sometimes difficult arrangements when kids are home and parents have to work. Simply calling in for 3-4 days just isn't an option for most people.

Monroe county closes because of Tellico. Even though Sweetwater or Madisonville won’t see snow Tellico could and they shut down the whole county.

It’s easy to criticize administrators for not having school but if 1 kid ever got killed because of icy roads the lawsuit and public backlash would be huge.

What long range are you referring to?

Please don't say accuweather.

10 day local combined. Anything outside of that is a guess IMO. Just as I am guessing on the end of winter. Accuweather has something crazy like a 90 day and that’s stupid. For snow I use snow forecast but that is mainly the ski areas and such.

Winter isn't over. We've almost made it through January but we still have February and part of March. Biggest snow I remember was in March on weekend of SEC tournament.

I can’t even remember the last time knoxville had a snow storm of at least six inches. Maybe 1993, then the 96 storm. I wasn’t here from 97-2003 so there is that. I remember a night it snowed a bit in 03 and maybe 2011 nothing much after that.

There was the ice storm in February 2015. That was pretty disruptive. I know it’s not a snow event, but I would be surprised if winter is all done.

I remember we had a pretty good snow around the time UT played Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, 98 I guess. But yes I can't remember many other times we have had any decent snows. Seemed to happen more when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s.

I think that was 2014. I was still in school and had to drive from to Knoxville to Friendsville. Took me 3.5 hours to get home and was almost killed by a landscaping truck that was rolling backwards.

Edit: i forgot there was a terrible one the next year in March, you were right

Wore shorts, flip flops, and a t shirt to the store tonight and people were dressed like it’s 30 below still. It’s like 50, don’t get it

Didn't we get about that much in Feb 2015?
