Per Tennessean, over $20million.
Tennessee football vs. Virginia at Nissan Stadium generated $20.3 million in economic impact
Kind of like the government monthly jobs report that always gets corrected? Original figures are always headlines, corrected numbers you'll need to search for. These "economic impact" studies are BS. They are meant to support government subsidies for wealthy pro sports owners.
There's not a single legit economist that agrees with these and several have explicitly stated they are pure, complete, and utter BS.
There are lots of options. Staying near the airport is much cheaper and convenient, and an Uber from there is around $15. I’ve never paid for parking anytime I’ve been downtown. I’ve parked at Nissan stadium countless times, and never had a problem or paid a penny. Sometimes you can catch that hotel in front of Nissan stadium (the one with the guitar shaped pool) running deals comparable to the airport rates ($100-150) but not often. And yes, I do eat at the food hall or take advantage of some food special that the arena is offering. I used to go to hooters exclusively for my trips to the games, but that’s gone since the bombing. Their rates were pretty much the same as every other hooters. I’m just going down there to enjoy a game, and not be a tourist. And to reply to another poster, I definitely don’t pay the “good seat” rates for Preds games. The best I’ve ever had was behind the team bench, and those were practically given to me. Otherwise I’m up in the 303 cell block. If a person wants to go down there and keep it simple, it’s very affordable and doable. You aren’t staying downtown then. Hotels start at 300 to 400. You are staying outside of downtown. You also aren’t eating downtown outside of the food hall for less than 40 per person per meal. My guess is you are going to the preds game, parking for 30, then leaving and eating somewhere else. If not, feel free to say where you stayed and where you at three meals for a total of 600 for two days for two.
The big impact was in recruiting, getting the Vols on a live stage in the growing middle Tennessee high school football market
The Tennessean, haven’t read it in years. What a joke of a paper. You would think that the University of Tennessee would be front and center of the newspaper that is named The Tennessean but you would be wrong. I have to read the Knoxville paper to get any Vol’s news, Pathetic. I gave up my subscription years ago.
It has been explained to you, however we can not understand it for your. Tennessee is a national brand that reaches far past K-Town. Folks that live on the other end of the state would like to have a little easier and less expensive trip to watch our beloved vols play... Knoxville gets to host like 7 games there...Wonder what the economic impacts were for Knoxville missing out on a home game. I’m more interested in that number
Slight disagreement here. It doesn’t remain in that price range for getting there or for returning during major events or other extremely busy periods/weekends on Broadway and Downtown. There are lots of options. Couldn’t have hurt w Jalen Ramsey or Van Jefferson doesn’t matter if we played the Cowboys or Austin Peay in my opinion just a presence in Nashville helps. Not sure how much of an impact playing in Nashville vs Virginia has. I do think that playing a good team at a neutral site located close regionally could help recruiting. Not sure Virginia qualifies.

There aren't even hotels in downtown Knoxville for 300-400 on game weekends. We found an air bnb in Nashville for 1200, but it slept 6. Dinner was about $400/couple (but we did hit a very nice place I've wanted to try for years). So yes, easily over $1000 for my wife and I, and we only stayed Saturday night.
Call it a splurge, or just throwing money around like it grows on trees, but... I drive an hour into Nashville 3 or 4 times a year and spend $20-80 at McKAY's used bookstore. That’s not at all necessary to enjoy Nashville. I go several times a year for predators games, and I don’t come close to spending that. $2-300 a day per person, yes, but you have to be trying to spend that kind of money.
I was just pointing out that a person can go to Nashville for something like say, enjoying a hockey game, etc, without breaking the bank. I do it a half dozen times a year or more, and I know how to do it for less. If someone wants to spend a grand for a weekend, have at it.I said stay downtown and eat downtown. You named no hotel downtown as the one hotel u mentioned is across the river and the others are airport. You mentioned one restaurant that is gone. I live in Nashville and go downtown weekly. You seem like a nice guy but ppl from out of town coming here need to know the actual cost.
Hotel prices for the UT game were significantly higher than they are for Titans weekends or Preds games. I just checked to confirm.I was just pointing out that a person can go to Nashville for something like say, enjoying a hockey game, etc, without breaking the bank. Dont know where you are from, but they have a Mckay's in Knoxville and Chattanooga. I have $19 of McKay money in my pocket right now.Call it a splurge, or just throwing money around like it grows on trees, but... But I'm single now and can indulge that kind of financial frivolity. Wouldn't recommend it to just everyone.
The Vols NEED to pay attention to middle Tennessee as it has become a hotbed of P5 talent like it or not. You can pay attention to all that talent or watch it go elsewhere. That spot in the schedule was never a home game. It was originally the BYU game at Provo. It’s the position of most ADs that 8 home games in a season has a negative impact due to higher season ticket costs, expense for attending an additional game, etc.
I only posted this to share the reason why you’ll see more of these games in Nashville going forward Not just Tennessee too. I could see the Sports Authority bringing other SEC schools into Nashville in the future for this kind of money.
@Jackcrevol was ready to leave the SCAR game in the third Q.Some people are funny like that, though.. ‘come on Martha, get in the car we gotta go’
