Do we make a run at him?

With the outpouring of "affection" on this board, we could charge admission and probably net enough $$$ to build a new stadium
I have long thought that due to the importance of recruiting, and the predictive ability of talent, that recruiting as a singular skill is far under valued. In other words if simple talent averages alone can explain about 70% of wins and losses, recruiting should maybe be given much more credence. Thinking outside the box, a guy like O, could be brought on a staff and given a title but only focuses on recruiting. This position would have a huge salary but no real coaching responsibility. I'm not suggesting we hire that mumbling fool, but I do think that the system could be tweaked to hyper utilize great recruiters without devaluing a whole staff with limited positions.
I was suggesting we put him in a role with fewer responsibilities, as in not a coordinator or head coach.
As I said, I am thinking outside of the box.
Isn't their already a position just called "recruiting coordinator"? How about a team makes that position a couple million dollar a year position and bring in a huge personality / great recruiter and put him to work. A year round thing with no real game day responsibilities. He simply is the recruiting guy and liaison between the recruits families and the coaching staff.
My point though is simply that even with the way fans focus on recruiting, that I believe that the importance of recruiting isn't valued enough. There is a direct correlation between recruiting and wins on the field. My world view is simply that we tend to generally over-value a head coach, and under-value talent and talent development. A head coach usually negotiates for and is given a bonus for bowl wins, conference championship games, whatever. I think this recruiting coordinator position should get massive bonuses for top 5 classes, retention and compliance. I believe that great talent has helped more coaches look like geniuses, than genius coaches have made bad talent look good.
The recruiting coordinator is always a regular coach too. For example, Tennessee's recruiting coordinator is Terry Joseph; he coaches DBs. Florida's is Joker Phillips, who coaches WRs. Alabama's is Mike Groh, who also coaches WRs. Rodney Garner was DL coach and recruiting coordinator at Georgia; now he has the same two jobs at Auburn. Etc etc. If you could hire as many assistants as you wanted, then it would might make sense to have your best recruiter focus on nothing else, but as it is there just aren't enough slots for it.
