Ed Reed to Bethune-Cookman

GOOD for him. As I watch Coach Prime play out...he is MORE than impressive with the atmosphere he demands

Bethune-Cookman either had nothing to sell sponsorships for (possible) or had no one willing to sponsor the facilities they have (more likely).
Tough look for the school and will lead to a long period of athletic struggle.

HBCUs are never flush with cash, but should've moved heaven and earth to keep EReed willing to coach.
I would bet good faith effort would have been enough to keep Ed Reed working for the school. He is sacrificing to be there in the first place.

That was a mess he signed up for and he tried to immediately fix it with a powder keg. What made him an epic, force of nature as a player doesn’t work in this role.

They weren’t going to anyway.
He ensured it. Your boss hires you and you scathe them on social media that same week? You cost yourself the chance to impact young athletes. Next institution that views this toxic, “look at me” reality show attempt isn’t signing him up either.

I’m not saying he’s right in what he did but it seemed to me that they were happy with the way the facilities were and didn’t want to make the changes.

and no it won’t help Reed but Deion gets a pass for calling out the conditions at Jackson St?

So many are jumping to Reed’s side, but his gamble of calling out the the facilities and university as a whole on social media was a dumb one. if they miraculously came up with the funding to improve the athletic facilities, it was going to be a long time before the university could fix everything. Odds are, Reed was going to put them on social media blast again and again. And the university just can’t afford that publicity.

I didn’t see them being happy. There’s an obvious malaise. Not sure how much of that is partisan and how much the result of budgetary constraints. Missed where Deion went on a profanity laced Twitter tirade calling out the Jackson State admin who hired him. He managed to convey that he wasn’t satisfied with what he had to work with. Improvements were made and money was spent. Not saying Bethune Cookman brass would’ve put forth a similar effort but the reason they went after Ed Reed was because of Deion’s SUCCESS. In any case, you can’t start pulling in the same direction if you sweep your supposed partners legs out from under them at the beginning of the tug of war.

Agreed. Understand the sentiment and passion behind the rants, but you hire a HC to be a calming agent ahead of a fire…not to set one! Anyone can do a Twitter tirade. A HC should have an air of dignity…or a reasonable modicum of professionalism.

Why not go to your personal connections and get funding to improve things? You’re Ed freaking Reed. Then if your connections don’t come through, you blast them for being all talk about wanting to support HBCUs

Al I heard from him is “I didn’t do any due diligence on this job before making an agreement in principle.”
