We must defeat Vandy.

No excuse is worth a damn. If we lose, it will be like the apocalypse. The recruiting class will fall apart; cats and dogs living together.

I like CBJ. I can take my lumps with CBJ. I was fed up with Dooley at Showergate; "looking for Rommel" just infuriated me - comparing my Vols to the Nazi army. Damn son of Vince couldn't coach cockroaches to survive. CBJ is a complete 180.

And yet... we've got to win this game. I don't care if we pull an Aubbie v GA to do it. I don't care if it's Clint Stoener 2: Electric Boogaloo. If we have a W on Sunday morning, God's in His heaven and all's right with the world.

I seriously doubt losing to Vandy will be catastrophic to the recruiting class.

They want to think the world of UT football is over if we lose. Can't stop them from believing differently. Let them cry because that's what they long to do. It's their nature

We'll have Nathan Peterman *drop* them off somewhere around the 20 yard line for ya....

Wrong on many levels, but I LOL'ed.

CBJ kept him in there at least two turnovers too many. I'm sure Peterman is a gamer though, and he's going to get better from the experience.

there was no excuse for stanford losing to utah. Things happen. I believe we are going to beat vandy but if we don't, it won't be as bad as some of you're making it out to be. Will i and a lot of other fans be upset? Absolutely. Will it do anything else but cause emotional uproar? No.

Yes i expect us to win but this is football and anything can happen on any given saturday. Did anyone expect fsu to go into clemson and completely blow the out? Nope. But it happened. Did anyone expect baylor to be ranked in the top 7 at this point? Nope. But it happened. My point is things happen. Everything cannot be controlled.

This is not some kind of win or bust game. Oh we have to beat vandy or the program is in trouble is stupid.

huh?

Heard on the radio this morning, that the key to our win would be for us to stop Jordan Matthews and for us to NOT give Vandy fumbles or interceptions. Vandy also has troubles with running q.b.'s. So, Dobbs needs to run the ball. We also need to control the clock by running with Lane & Neal.

Of course, Vandy needs to get Jordan Matthews the ball alot and create fumbles or interceptions against us in order to win.

True

A good portion are Vol legacies

I just wonder how good the class would be without the legacies. Is it really showing how good Jones can recruit when there are so many legacies in the class?

I've wondered that myself. CBJ has gotten some topshelf tallent that wasn't legacies but the legacies got the ball rolling.

ps...Thig should be the highest paid coach not named Butch.

Very good question. I'm not taking anything away from the staff, but it is a legitimate thing to wonder about. Also, consider how much "recruiting" the commits have done as well.

I'm glad someone that is not considered to be an "ignorant fool" by many others around here finally brought this up. Cause that's the treatment I got when I touched this side to CBJs current recruiting class a while back.

The legacies and the benefit of having some solid TN talent in this class is what's going to help us out the most if we lose either of the next 2 games. If kids that don't have an attachment to UT start to drop off the list CBJ surely is going to have a tough road ahead of him. Let's not hope we lose any of the legacies...oy vey!!

Side note: I know a lot of people think I have a specific love for Dooley himself, but it isn't that. I'm a firm believer the history repeats itself. Dooley's era is the only one we can use as a comparison to our current situation. If we lose one of the 2 next games and the class starts to fall apart I see CBJ being on the same path as Dooley. This fan base taking him down, negative recruiting by other coaches on the recruiting trail, him being on the hot seat starting his 2nd season, etc. If we don't figure a way to control this, imo by being reminded of how things turned on Dooley in the wrong way, UT will never climb out of the hole it's in. Just IMO that's all...

Even if a recruit is a legacy, there are no guarantees. I'm sure most Ole Miss fans thought Peyton was a lock to be a Rebel. (Yeah, I know. If his brother didn't get hurt, he would have been.) When a school is down, a recruiter probably has to work that much harder to sell that school to a legacy. And from what we've seen, CBJ and his staff do work hard.

Peyton was just one. This class has an abnormal # of highly rated ones for any school. So that's the concern for the future. Not saying he doesn't work hard but if the weren't legacies would he have been able to get his foot in the door with them.

If we do lose to Vandy and recruits bail solely based on that then they were not Vols to begin with and we don't need them.

I may have to rethink this statement after yesterday.
