Depp's movies that I've seen and disliked, or did not care for:

Platoon
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (not bad, but I never want to see it again)
Secret Window (never to be mentioned again in the same sentence as Fight Club)
Cry-Baby
Benny & Joon
The Ninth Gate
Sleepy Hollow
Chocolat
Pirates of the Caribbean
Finding Neverland (unbearably boring)
Sweeney Todd
Public Enemies

I agree with all of this.

Depp had a lot more than one minute of screen time in Platoon. The scene where he made a bong out of a gas mask was funny, the scenes where he was saving Vietnamese children from the fire was epically emotional, and (SPOILER) his death scene was amazingly acted. Depp pretty much stole the show from Sheen and dominated every scene he was featured in. Platoon is certainly one of Johnny Depp's most notable movies considering it was basically his breakthrough performance.

Not true at all. Delusional post. He was featured in exactly one scene and that was carrying that kid out of the village. The FEW others he was in were group scenes and he hardly ever spoke.

You're one lost soul

You might not have liked Platoon, but most people do and most movie critics gave it a hugh thumbs up, including Academy and Golden Globe nominations for best picture.

Platoon is EASILY one of the best Vietnam movies ever made

I agree with all of this.

Wanna get together and watch a movie some time? Did Taxi Driver with my wife last night. She did not like. I'm a little disappointed. She usually likes pretty cool movies, though, except for all the ones that have anything to do with Vampires.

I don't care if it's top 4 if there are only 3 Vietnam movies that I like (Apocalypse Now, Deer Hunter, Full Metal Jacket).

Only a small portion of Deer Hunter takes place in Vietnam. It's more about before and after. It is a great part of that movie though, but I still wouldn't call it a "Vietnam" movie.

I liked Casualties of War too. Both Fox and Penn play great parts

of course it's a Vietnam movie. Just because it wasn't full of battle scenes and blood doesn't make it less of one

My parents are convinced it's the Vietnam movie that most captures the time. My Mom said she was upset (crying in the shower type stuff) for weeks after seeing it. It was very real to the Vietnam generation. It's THE Vietnam War movie, IMO.

Exactly, don't think there's another movie that encompasses nearly as much of what that war was all about.

Also, I think Hamburger Hill is a very good Vietnam war movie that seems to get mentioned much less than the other usual suspects.

Norton.

Depp was good in Fear and Loathing. I didn't realize The Rum Diary was about Hunter S. Thompson, or at least dedicated to him, I dunno. But about 5 minutes in, I was like damn, is this the sequal to Fear and Loathing?

Norton is good in nearly everything, though.

Depp is fun to watch. Initially, I was thinking it was landslide to Norton, but thinking about it, it's pretty close.

Ignoring Pirates of the Caribbean = you're wrong.

He's only made like 4 movies that I would like to see again*:

Blow
Donnie Brasco
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Edward Scissorhands

That's a pretty small list considering I've seen like 20 of his movies.

*The mark of a good movie, IMO. In some cases it doesn't hold true. Schindler's List and Alpha Dog were great, but that doesn't mean I want to see them again.

It is the difference between a extraordinarily talented actor (Norton) and a very popular and talented ham (Depp).
