Edward Snowden: American Hero

Similiar to how in a discussion about God, I wouldn't constantly say "if God existed". In this case yes, it would have been more clear if I had said "if his occurred". But no I do not believe it occurred.

And if you look back many of my post do say things along the lines of "if this occurred", I've also stated on here that it's most likely part of a government misinformation campaign designed to ruin his name.

THE FREAKING RUSSIANS HAVE TOLD US THAT HE HAS GIVEN THEM INFORMATION. THIS ISN'T THE US. THIS IS RUSSIA MEDIA TELLING US STUFF. ASFHGHJ:L DO YOU READ ANYTHING I HAVE LINKED? frick on a stick

He didn't.

You are such a naive little boy

Edward Snowden: Classified US data shows Hong Kong hacking targets | South China Morning Post

The small sample data suggests secret and illegal NSA attacks on Hong Kong computers had a success rate of more than 75 per cent, according to the documents. The information only pertains to attacks on civilian computers with no reference to Chinese military operations, Snowden said.

"I don't know what specific information they were looking for on these machines, only that using technical exploits to gain unauthorised access to civilian machines is a violation of law. It's ethically dubious," Snowden said in the interview on Wednesday.
Yesterday's revelation that the US was secretly hacking computers in Hong Kong and on the mainland sent shockwaves around the world and came just days after Snowden first exposed the Prism programme to The Guardian newspaper in Britain.

"The primary issue of public importance to Hong Kong and mainland China should be that the NSA is illegally seizing the communications of tens of millions of individuals without any individualised suspicion of wrongdoing," Snowden said. "They simply steal everything so they can search for any topics of interest."

I posted this in the Ukraine thread, but I figured I'd post it here too.

At this point, the case against Snowden (obvious Russian SVR agent) apparently takes an interesting turn:

Is he THE mole in the US intelligence community, or is he providing a highly valuable and viable means of covering for THE moles in the US intelligence community (apparently a near timeless Russian espionage strategy)?

When you see someone else with their fly unzipped, do you tell them? Or are you hesistant to embarrass them? Or are you too ashamed to admit you were looking at their crotch? I know some grown men who wear sweat pants everywhere they go.

I don't know.

I don't look at men's crotches.

The support for Snowden dies by the day. Apparently, even zzzz Germans are having some difficulties in still justifying his "hero-status" as well.

Hats off to Russia. They kicked our asses like an empty balloon with this one.

And it doesn't even matter if we strike back.

Russia is Russia. Except for a few people in this world short on some neuron-firings, they all know Russia is horrible, so nothing you can produce about Russia is going to work against them like Snowden's sabotage has worked against us, the great bastion of liberal freedoms, individuality, and humanity.

Face it, Snowden and Russia flat out ripped us a new one. And the consequences will be felt for decades to come, Snowbirds (misguided Snowden fans who have about as much knowledge concerning foreign policy and espionage, in particular, as my mother does concerning football) should just stick to snowcones. Just sit back, close your eyes, and enjoy the fantasy while the real people are working to enable your fantasy visions.

Said it from day one he was a traitor and everyone had a go at me.

I agree though.

Americans are always in a desperate search for the next anti-establishment guy (probably because we don't really have to worry about our security that much here on our big veritable island) but this dude just reeked nonsense from the get-go.

Hardly any (but enough) of his documents had anything to do with government spying on private interests/relations. Enough was there, so, while that conversation consumes us (like we didn't know the govt. was spying on us anyhow - ****, every govt. does that), the documents he leaks to the Chinese and the Russians, in particular, that compromise our national security and strategic plans goes relatively unnoticed.

Snowden is just an absolute fiasco. The man is a mercenary ****head who I wished never existed.

But you and I, American and Brit, will both have to deal with him for a very long time, unfortunately.

He is a massive narcissistic, attention-seeking traitor. He left his family without a breadwinner because he wanted to be the face of some pseudo-anti-establishment movement and the lovechild of the loony left in the West and the crazy anti-West crowd in Russia and the Far East. He gave away state secrets and has done irreparable damage to the security services and endangered multiple personnel (at a minimum a number of embedded agents in MI6).

I don't agree with this.

He just wants to live in relative peace, without having to work, and while being provided with plenty of nourishments, whether donations or Russian govt. funds.

He's a narcissist, I grant you that. But I don't think he necessarily cares about publicity. He just wants to live at ease while being provided money. He doesn't care who he screws over in the process. He's kind of like some bizarre version of a welfare-queen, so to speak.

Honestly, if you can do it, and you don't have morals, then do it. It's hard to blame him.

Unfortunately for me, I actually have morals concerning such things.

Not sure, but I do know how to define traitor

Good post. Defining a traitor, like Snowden, is much easier than defining what "hero" constitutes.

Kind of like how defining the negation of something is always easier than defining that something, with its positive, firm attributes.

"Light is, well it's bright and.... Well, it's not darkness, I'll tell you that much."

I've gathered from your posts in this thread that you don't quite grasp Russian espionage tactics.

It's okay. Like many Americans, even myself, we want to believe in that great whistleblower hero that sacrifices all to save us.

Plain talk now, though, honestly, in his 4 documents (I downplay a little, but not much) that discuss NSA tactics concerning domestic spying, what did you learn that you didn't already think you knew? The nearly million documents compromising American intelligence, foreign policy, and foreign networking, on the other hand....

Others, including myself, have continually tried to convince you and like-minded individuals on here, how Snowden is nothing but a traitor. You all remain firm, despite mountains of evidence, and, like I said above, honestly, I can't blame you.

You want a true American hero.

But, friend, I'm here to tell you, a true American hero, Edward Snowden is not.
