Effects of coaching change...

Yeah, but I'm saying Fulmer filled our needs better with the players he had I believe.

I would take Morgan Moses, Peter White, Aubrey Phillips, JerQuari Schofield, and Kevin Revis, and Tajh Boyd over Kiffins class.

I mean, Kiffin still had a good class and everything, it's just I think we desperately needed OL a lot more than WRs and LBs.

I highly doubt we would have gotten them all. Moses stock dropped and he will be lucky to make it in. Phillips probably would have gone elsewhere and there was always the risk that P. White go to MD, even with CPF as coach.

I agree T. Boyd is a major recruit. I didn't understand this. So what if he is a duel threat QB and not tailor made to new system.

I would have liked to keep him, especially in view of the QB's we started last year.

So the concensus seems to be that more OL/DL would have been great and probably would have happened if Fulmer was still here...yet we landed several skill people that would have never given us a second look if not for Kiffin...

I think we all would agree that football is won in the trenches but nobody can deny the disparity in athletcism that has been seen between us and UF/LSU...

You need gamebreakers and hogs to win...we got a good set of the former this year...hopefully we can get the latter this coming year(and a QB)...

But I agree that if Kiffin could do what he managed to do in 2 months then I can't wait to see what we land next year

You have to remember -- Kiffin did not lose Boyd and Thigpen -- he basically convinced them to look elsewhere.

As I mentioned before they failed either the medical or physical tests he puts the recruits through (Boyd was medical, Thigpen was drills). He didn't feel they would play at UT and let them know -- so they really can't be counted as a loss (at least not in the coaches eyes).

I agree, snatching Teague away from Florida, could be a major turning point in UT football.

We will have to wait and see, but if they let this kid handle the ball, I will be astonished if he does not surprise a great number of people with his athletic ability.

He is the best recruit from West TN in several years, and that includes Al Wilson, Patrick Willis, etc...

I think he is that good.

Teague is in NO WAY a better recruit than Al Wilson. Lets see Mr. Teague go to a couple Pro Bowls before we start making irrational assumptions.:eek:k:

Good post.
IMO Fulmer's class would have looked better on paper, but inept coaching would fail to turn that into Wins. Kiffin got some good players, but also lost some really good ones that could have really helped. The Boyd thing is still unnerving to me.

none of those guys would have signed with us....especially after a 5-7 season under fulmer.

Moses and White were silent commits
Schofield and Phillips had already committed
Revis and Boyd grew up Tennessee fans.

We had all of them.

I mean, I'm glad we got the coaching change, because Fulmer just wasn't cutting it, but if we kept him, it seems like our recruiting class would have been much better where we needed it the most.

Now Kiffin did pull some good players, but not getting many quality OL hurts us some.

I have to agree...we needed speed. Our offense looked slow motion compared to many teams in the SEC

Ok... Maybe that was a bit over the top considering what those two have done in the NFL, but I saw both of them play high school ball, and Teague is right there with them as a dynamic high school athlete. He is one of those players, like these guys, that do not come along very often. You know you are seeing something special when you see them.

I will be shocked if he does not have a major career and TN and beyond.

Is he going to get in school?

Fulmer could recruit, but player development has been on the decline.

With Kiffin it seems recruiting won't miss a beat AND we have a staff that can help improve the players.

We can do the "what if" scenarios forever, but it won't do any good. Let's just see how things play out.

I AM NOT IN ANY WAY IMPLYING THAT WE SHOULD HAVE KEPT FULMER!!

Just wanted to make that clear...

But I am interested in what you all think the effect of the coaching change was on this class...

To my knowledge we lost 6 four star recruits(Giles, Shackleford, Phillips, Stokes, Thigpin, possibly Oku) that would have most likely signed if Fulmer were here...

But we picked up 1 five star(Jackson) and 5 four stars(Green, Teague, Gordon, Myles, Richardson) that we probably wouldn't have gotten if Fulmer were still here

So did this class...as it is right now...benefit or decline due to Fulmers firing?

From a pure numbers point of view it almost looks like a push

*'s mean nothing....winning means everything....that is all.

I think a combination of the workout program, intensity level and motivation is going to amount to 1 or 2 wins by itself.

I'm glad to see the "work like heck" and "I'm gonna watch the film" mentality go. Spring practice is gonna be open (at least to the media as far as I know) and the kids are gonna compete, and the best will play. I like the way the program is being run right now.

Thanks for that chief...

But this thread is specifically about recruiting and recruiting rankings...

So in the context of the discussion going on in this thread *'s do mean something...

So...better or worse(in recruiting) without Fulmer?

I'm especially glad to see this particular cliche' go...considering the current S&C program is exposing it for the complete load of crap it was

I for one am glad Fulmer is gone more and more every day. Every time Kiffin does something to bring excitement to the program or to get the guys fired up, I remember how boring the program was the last few years under Fulmer. This is just the off season, I can't wait until spring practice and this fall to see what kind of excitement Kiffin generates.
