I mean he’s from Nebraska. Went to Kansas State I think. Probably has family out that way.

With the exception of one major gaffe per game where they either don't catch a punt and let it roll 20 yds, or hit the punter in the back of the head needlessly, or try to return a KO and get a block in the back leaving the Vols with terrible field position......

He's a good hype man so all of the young fans love him. I can take him or leave him.

Well, he did make the first quarter of the Vandy game interesting with the opening kickoff return giving Vandy a 7-0 lead after about 12 seconds.

So wait @Backwards K ..Am I reading this right players not executing on the field is coaches fault now? A player dropping a punt is not the coaches fault it freaking happens. Bad tackles happen in games because things are moving 100 miles an hour. Now if players are going out doing this stuff every game or lining up wrong there is a point. But our special teams COACHING has not been a problem for a long time. We have always had, at the worst, good special teams. 'Letting' a ball roll is a silly thing to crucify someone over once that ball hits the ground the receiving team is taught to get the heck away from it. And you have no idea which way the ball is gonna bounce till it bounces. Thats the nature of footballs. you can let it bounce and lose some field position or go after it get your head knocked off and turn it over because if it hits that ground there are 3 opposing players waiting and hoping you touch it.

Hey Coach Ekler, I didn't mean for you take this personally. I have just noticed that normally, at least one time a game, one of the players you are responsible for makes a mistake that costs our beloved Vols 20 yds or more. Further, it seems as if the whole letting the punts roll happens more often than I see it happen for more teams.

Also, I'm glad you have the kick returner call a fair catch on most kick offs b/c it seems like one of the players you are responsible for blocks someone in the back every time y'all call for a return. If they are gonna do this so consistently, could you ask them not to do this inside the 20? That half the distance to the goal makes things difficult. Especially against teams like Georgia.


Look. Ekler does bring energy and there are enough positive plays and the Vols are very solid on kick returns. But, the lost yardage on rolling punts and penalties on kickoffs do add up. Also, it seems like there were 2 or 3 roughing the kicker penalties that cost the Vols dearly.......one inexcusable one in the Arkansas game. Not sure what Ekler does with the linebackers but that has not been a position of strength the last couple of years.

But, as I said, I can take him or leave him.

That is true for nearly every special teams unit for every team every game.
