ND in the playoffs is the NCAA/TV execs' dream. They are college football personified to a lot of people with a passing interest in the sport.

This year it doesn’t matter. Bama and Clemson are in and that’s all that really matters.
Funny how they rank them so they don't play each other in the semifinals every year. If you did the final game would be a blowout. I guess they are content on the semifinals being blowouts.

Last year’s playoffs disagree. I want 8, but would settle for 6.

Strange to see many in here picking Bama to just roll over OU. Probably the same ones who thought that UGA had no chance. Kyler Murray is going to be tough for Bama to stop. Saban has always had difficulty stopping true DT QBs. Also, Tua is out. So their offense may not be quite as lethal. Dont be surprised if OU is in it late or even pulls the upset.

OU's defense is horrid. Bama will destroy OU.

Riley is fool's gold. Texas is about to replace OU as the only Big 12 team that matters.

UCF vs. Notre Dame would actually probably be a good game.

I can't say that for UCF vs. the other 3.

There's a very good reason for that....ND and UCF are undefeated pretenders.

If the committee really wanted the four best teams, we'd have Bama/Ohio State and Clemson/Oklahoma.

Four conference champs from the P5 conferences that matter.

Agreed. Although there are good arguments on both sides for and against the FBS playoff itself, not to mention the numbers of teams involved, sometimes the simplest answer is the best.....

- FBS teams play an 11-game schedule. Period. 8 conference games, and 3 pick-em. No more then one game against an FCS team (they make money on those games). SOS is based on your best 10 opponents, to level the field.
- 12th game is the conference championship game.
- 8-team playoff. P5 conference champs, top G5 ranked team, and 2 at-larges. The 2 at-larges are selected based on the old BCS formula or a very similar formula (adjust if necessary, but SOS should be a major factor).
- If Notre Dame doesn't want a conference affiliation, then they play for an at-large, and have to play a schedule (and win) that compares to the conference teams. One bite at the apple. Make it count.
- Final two teams end up playing 15 games. Same as the final two teams do now.

Finally, I could be wrong, but I believe every level of collegiate football (and almost all high schools) have a playoff to determine the champion. Why not FBS? Two words: bowl money.

You want a true champion? Design a system to find them. Hint: it already exists. Everywhere except the FBS.

Go Vols.
Why is it a true champion? Just because you get hot and do well in the playoffs, doesn’t mean you were the best team that year.

Notre Dame is not one of the four best teams in the country, and no one has the balls to say it.

They are included for the same reasons UCF is excluded...and neither team is worthy in my opinion.

Notre Dame struggled with Vandy and Pitt, and I think Clemson beats them by at least 20.
Been saying it all along.. I think they are overrated. And GA is better than Oklahoma.

Vandy was pre-qb change.

But you'll see OU and OSU had close calls too. No one was really flawless.6

They may be. Advanced stats and scoring margins say - Bama, Clemson, UGA, OU. But using our brain says ND has been much better with new qb and OU has won 3 of last 5 by 3 or fewer points!! Pretty lucky recently. I'd say swap ou and uga from current 4 and there's the 4 best.

Good idea. Let's just do away with playoffs in every sport. No reason at all for those athletes or their fans to want to see who the best of the best is. Everybody gets a trophy. At some point during your season, you were the best.

I'll send you a "Champions of Life" t-shirt as soon as they come in.

I hope they get curb stomped in the first round the playoffs. I hate ND with every fiber of my being.

Lmao! Hell, Vols all over the country would be tripping over each other if Riley was the HC here. Texas isn’t replacing anyone in the Big 12. OU’s recruiting base has expanded outside of Texas and not all Texas hs players want to be a longhorn. Fools gold maybe. But one hell of a coach you ask me.

No one has ever developed a perfect system and never will. I think expanding to 8 for the playoff should be considered as it gives teams like Georgia a second chance to play for the title. You just can't pick a two loss team over a no loss team. I realize that Georgia would beat the crap out of Notre Dame if they played. Tennessee could be 12 and 0 if we played the right schedule. Never gonna be a system where you can get all the top four teams in maybe moving to eight there is no argument as you certainly include teams on the bubble.

I agree that it needs to expand to 8. Take the 5 power conference winners and 3 at larges based on ranking. You will comfortably get the best teams in the country and no one would be left out that shouldn't be.

Played each other in the semifinals last year. This year they were the #1 and #2 teams...end of conspiracy.

Not anything close to what I said. Certain sports like basketball have always been tournament sports. College football was more unique because it was for the regular season. Was just something that I appreciated about it. The SEC championship was just a good example of why it doesn’t matter as much anymore. Bama was getting in no matter what. Why is it all that exciting when you can win the title without even winning your conference, or your division in the conference like last year.

Despite their 2018 stats, I still think the OU offense in 2015 that Tennessee played (mayfield, Mixon, Perigue & Shepard) was more talented but the OU OL this year is much better. They’ll give bama DL all they can handle. And if OU plays D similar to what they did vs Texas, it could be interesting.
