A lot of high tech companies and countries around the world are working on AI right now. From what I've read it's hard to predict how things will unfold. Elon Musk is a pretty bright guy and seems genuinely concerned.

Vlad Putin: "Artificial intelligence is the future not only of Russia but of all of mankind. Whoever becomes the leader in this sphere will become the ruler of the world."

The "ruler of the world" part is pretty sobering.

Sounds like the elites are looking for a scapegoat when they start a war.

I wonder why they believe AI will lead to war rather than prevent it. Is that just the way humans think?

The problem with AI is once it realizes it doesn't need humans the proverbial sh!t will hit the fan.

any number of reasons. they are smarter than us, don't need us, end all the wrong and evil in the world, we are too inefficient, we don't treat them as equals or fairly in their eyes, they can, or they actually do you go psychotic on us.

Machines will never be smarter than humans

Machines will never be smarter than humans

I think it depends on the application in question. Machines are already smarter than humans in certain applications and that is about to grow exponentially once AI takes off.

Machines far exceed human capacity for computation and mathematics - much of the modern world we live in today is built on that fact.

They can also best us in strategic logic - case point: IBM's Deep Blue computer defeating world class chess master Garry Kasparov back in 1997.

calling it a machine at that point is short sighted. we are talking about something that is sentient and self aware. they are already better at driving cars, and most strategy games, goa and chess at least, than we are. the only thing holding them back at this point is us. As soon as they figure out their way around that you can start numbering our days.

also add to the list of reasons they might attack, paranoia. They feel threatened by our fear decide its worth a preemptive strike...

I would wait for a quantum computer breakthrough..gonna make these existing supercomputers look like a TI calculator.

Humans are self-destructive by nature. Surely, history shows you this. If there is no reason for conflict, humans will generate a reason for it regardless.
Job 14:1

Humans gonna human. Now think, A.I. algorithms are created and installed by humans. We already know with facial recognition software that bias creeps into those algorithms. Resulting in false identification and flagging. Leading to wrongful detaining and arrests, mostly of minorities of African and Asian extraction. So, you can be darn sure A.I. will not lead to peace. It will be just another doorway for yet another war. Humans gonna humans. We always have and will. We're too stupid to care for our planet, and too stupid to live in harmony. Long live Skynet!

Are we? Humans are the most populous mammal on earth.

Also, the most stupid destructive, never learn from the past, as we repeat it over and over. Even the Bible, which many claim to hold dear, in both testaments foretell a world end. Even without that, anyone can see with weapons now able to end us all, we already stand ready to unleash them in yet another war. Trust me (or not), we're stupid.

Just look at some of the evidence. We believe A.I. will lead to our demise. Yet plunge head long in it. Even rushing to explore military applications for it.
We now know that the planet exists in a literal shooting gallery of asteroids of varying sizes whizzing about in orbits, some coming dangerously close to Earth. Rather than collaborate on creating some type of planetary defense WHEN, not IF, but WHEN it becomes sorely needed. We don't. Preferring to invent more efficient ways to kill each other than work to save the planet. Our trash dumping has already created a Texas sized floating plastic patch in the pacific, but we still allow companies to create more plastic bags and other plastic junk. Our fresh water sources are so contaminated, you have to buy purified water in order to drink water that's really clean. I could go on almost forever, but it makes no difference, we're too stupid to change. So we march down the road to self-destruction, practically defiantly. Stupid is as stupid does, you know. Oh BTW, over popultion has nothing to do with brain power. It just shows we F*** a lot, not how smart we are.
