Emmanuel Negedu's basketball career is over

Exactly. I was livid for E that those doctors were so stupid.

So you would rather have a kid risk his life because some coaches would like to have him on the team? No one should have allowed him to play given his diagnosis. God bless him for still wanting to play, but what do you expect from a 19 year old kid? Of course he wants to play, but coaches who are grown men should be more responsible than to risk it.

And just being real, it's not like coaches were drooling over him and he's not an elite baller.

? Perhaps it's time to brush up on reading comprehension.

Or are you using "you" to talk about the doctors?

It's a shame. E-man was one of the finest athletes I'd ever seen. His size and speed was absolutely unheard of.

Freakish athletic ability, and an even better motor/work ethic. No one at UT has come close to playing as hard as E-man did since he left, save Tobias. He could teach Hopson/Tatum a few lessons that's for sure.

The most un-nerving position to be in is one where u know one of ur athletes has an underlying heart condition.

Nope, Eman is still a douche too. UNM did the exact same thing we did and this is what he had to say about it:

"Everything's been good. I made a good decision coming down here. I gave it a shot. All I needed was a shot. Nobody gave me that when I was in Tennessee; a second chance. And I had that."

Sounds like an ungrateful prick to me.

...sounds like a young man making an emotional comment. Nothing to get bent over.

Eman's statement about not getting a second chance at UT is true. I would bet he realizes Tennessee was denying him that 2nd chance out of concern for his safety and that it was nothing personal.

How is he a prick? I play baseball and I know if someone told me I could never play it anymore I would be pretty emotional as well. How bout you ask him how he feels 30 years from now when he is ALIVE and a little more even keel?

Correct. If he wants to die, he should go ahead and start playing pick-up at UNM's rec center.

The doctors that cleared him to play at UNM broke their Hippocratic Oath. Their job is to save Negedu from himself, and they failed.

I disagree entirely with your opinion on this issue, I live in the land of the free and dont want any other person making those choices for me.

Is all this really necessary? I mean, seriously guys... take a step back. Coming from someone who has had athletics and the camaraderie of being on a team stripped from me at an early age due to health reasons. I ignored my first opinion and found a Dr that would give me a release and in my first game back after walking with a cane for 8 mos and then a year of rehab... I blew out the same knee without any contact or even a weird/awkward movement. My life wasn't in question, but I am still trying to fill the void in my life from the lack of being able to compete in sports. Be happy that Eman is alive and able to pursue other endeavors in life. I don't think that quote was negative towards UT, it is a simple fact. We did not give him a 2nd chance and for good reason. He didn't say he is mad at UT for not giving him the chance to give it another go. He simply stated we didn't which is true. Having spent a small amount of time with Eman and talking with him... The kid has a good head on his shoulders and is a VERY caring person. I admire him for his toughness and kindness. Two things not often found within one person in his situation.

I agree with most of this. By all accounts, he's a good kid; I can understand him being upset at Tennessee just because of his love for the game. However, Tennessee absolutely did the right thing in the situation.

I agree, UT does not need a player's death on their hands. We absolutely did the right thing. Maybe we shouldn't have granted his release... but I guess that wouldn't really have been right either. If he REALLY wanted to try and give it a 2nd go, I guess we did the right thing in letting him do it but washing our hands of the situation.

I don't claim any sort of insider knowledge, but I'm pretty sure UT would have gladly let him continue to play, but their insurance wouldn't cover him.

Maybe that's common knowledge, I don't know.
