I think he was refering to the elephants on their backs after not winning all season.

Is "Smoke" a threat NOW? I say wait until the CHASE is half over then we'll see who the top 3 are?
I'm hoping the #24 team is in there at the time!:good!:

He has to be. But I agree. My worst pick came in 24th. I think I got at worst a 4th place finish.

I've always respected and liked Smoke so I would love to see him win his third championship. Not to mention it would be good for the sport I think for a owner/driver to knock off JJ.

Yes it is! I had it all done and went to post the results and for some reason it kicked me out and I lost it all. Starting again. Sigh!

Just saw this. Like I said before, I thought he was refering to the pressure on himself and the team from not winning. Not so sure now.:dunno:

Winning crew chief Darian Grubb was asked what his driver meant when he said he unloaded “dead weight” this week. Grubb, who was on the hot seat after Stewart went 0-26 before the Chase answered, “Maybe he’s talking about me,” Grubb said. “I don’t know yet.”

Rumors have persisted that Stewart and Grubb would part ways after this season. Although former Stewart crew chief Greg Zipadelli has one year remaining on his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing, he continues to be the leading candidate to take the role.

As for the “dead weight,” Stewart in his postrace media availability refused to answer the question concerning what it references, leaving many to wonder.

Here was the exchange in the media center.

Q. Tony, ever since you were on TV in Victory Lane, the buzz all around the track and Internet is wondering what you meant when you said, We dropped some dead weight earlier this week.
TONY STEWART: We're just going to leave it at that.
Q. Could we ask if that was
TONY STEWART: You can't ask anything. It is what it is. That's all it was is what you said. That's where we'll leave it.
Q. Darian said there's not been any personnel changes on the team.
TONY STEWART: No, there hasn't. (Team Chevy)(9-25-2011)
