Ironic that ESPN's "30 for 30: Pony Excess" is being premiered immediately after Auburn's Cam Newton (likely) wins the Heisman Trophy. Once all the dirt comes out against Auburn, they may very well be facing sanctions similar to SMU.

I hope for the SEC's sake they do not get the death penalty but it may be a rough ride for them this summer. Pay for play is not joke, especially if it is a bad down there as some blogs are saying.

I too look forward to the "Pony Excess". The timing is ironic. It is amazing that Gene Cheese-Dip got the class he did with the competition (Alabama) in recruiting. What was Auburn's upswing as far as recruiting? IMO, It comes down to 1 player anyway--CAM. The talking heads were saying that if he went to Miss State, they would be competing for title. I don't know about that. I hope Cam goes to kiss the heisman and chips a tooth.

Paying student athletes for play is no joking matter. Paying their parents... well the NCAA is pretty much cool with that.

Then it will be:
ESPN's "30 for 30" Cash for Cam

The NCAA will never use the death penalty again. It's been two decades and SMU still hasn't recovered from those sanctions.

This is kind off topic but every 30 for 30 has a catch phrase that starts of with "what if I told you...". It can't remember what this one was and it's killing me. Does anyone know?

I had no idea the pentlies against SMU were so bad. This was a great 30 for 30, maybe the best yet.

Don't know why, but this one really didn't seem as compelling to me as some of the others. Maybe because I pretty much already knew the story.

Can someone explain to me how the guys who took money can sit there and say with straight faces that "they didn't do anything."?

I only saw the last 30 minutes, but it was exactly what I thought it would be: SMU guys crying about how they were no worse than Texas or A&M.

I think maybe that's the reason I had trouble with the whole thing. Eric Dickerson was treated like he was somehow above the fray and the boosters were all laughing about what happened.
