ESPN 30 for 30: Pony Excess

This one wasn't as good as "The U", but I thought it was good.

How the hell do you have 25 years to let things cool down, yet you still lie about what you did back in the mid-80's?

I only saw the last 30 minutes, but it was exactly what I thought it would be: SMU guys crying about how they were no worse than Texas or A&M.

Which is true. Not mentioning the dozens of other schools doing the same thing.

SMU was not the lone offender in that era, nor this one.

Who cares? That's like Charlie Manson going on 20/20 and saying he gets a bad rap because there are serial killers who never got caught.

I also expected it to be a little more revealing in terms of what happened there. Got some things, but I was expecting a lot more considering that it was 25-35 years ago when all this stuff happened.

Despite all the cheating, that SMU team is legendary in Texas. With that kind of support from your average local sport fan, why tell the truth now?

There was a feature in ESPN about the different hand signs for Texas schools. Dickerson threw up the SMU hand sign in picture, in the stadium with the mascot like nothing ever happened.

Not seeing where that came from.

I'm saying during that time it wasnt just the elite teams that were cheating. Just sayin

Manson was begging to get caught. His ego is why he will rot in prison.

I havent had a chance to watch the one about Miami. Is it that much better because I thought Pony Excess was solid.

I missed the first 30 minutes because of the Lombardi documentary on HBO.

Doesn't look like I missed anything besides a corrupt Governor and a bunch of whining cheaters.

It's not fair to think the kids can turn their back on a huge wad of cash. I'm not saying they shouldn't be ruled ineligible when caught, but they are typically not the ons with blood on their hands here.

Don't know why, but this one really didn't seem as compelling to me as some of the others. Maybe because I pretty much already knew the story.
I haven't watched a lot of these, but it simply wasn't as good a documentary as "The U," and some others that I've seen.

I loved the line "When a booster pays a player they think bought them, but the player really owns them""

Just like SMU basically saying '**** you' to the NCAA is the reason they suffered so badly.

Well, you do have to take into account that "The U" was done by the same guy who did arguably the greatest documentary of all time.

The one about the Cowboys?

Either way, whoever did it did a great job, except I wish they did a bit more to prop up Butch Davis.

No wonder Craig James expected his son to have a red carpet rolled out before him. Telling.
