I agree, however, can you look at UT's schedule in the past three years and say it is significantly tougher than ND's in the past three years?
  • In 2004, ND played the #14, #33, #24, #21, #13, #25, and #1(season ending AP Poll.)
  • 2004 UT: #26, #2, #7, #2, and #28.
  • 2004: Push
  • 2005 ND: #2, #27, and #4.
  • 2005 UT: #12, #6, #10, #8, and #9.
  • 2005: UT
  • So far in 2006 ND: #21, #34, and #2. Still left, #3.
  • 2006 UT: #12, #9, #26, and #37. Still left, #13 and #14.
  • So far in 2006: Push.
How is four games against the Top 15 a push with two games against the Top 15?

As the season plays out this will certainly be resolved. However, anyone can watch the ND defense and see that they are not one of the 10 best teams in the country right now.

You are right. Cal was added after they went 8-6 in the Pac-10 and finished without a vote in the AP Top 25 nor the Coaches Poll. You are right, gotta give credit to Hamilton for scheduling a Top 50 program at the time...

Never said Cal was a championship quality team when UT scheduled them, just that they were better than .500 and a rising program with the addition of Tedford.

I would give the 2004 edge to UT. Playing three top ten teams is a true gauntlet (even though we only played two teams, one of them twice). Also, I'd say that LSU and Arkansas will be ranked as high or higher at the end of the year. Georgia Tech will likely fall, as they seem to do every year. USC will probably finish in the top 10 again, though. I'd give the edge in 2006 to UT, as well. ND is playing too many service academies. And I am aware that we played Air Force.
