I remember Guthridge as overall underachiever. UNC had just won the championship in 1997 and he took over a stacked team that still had Vince Carter and Antwan Jamison. His teams got progressively worse each season.

I was just as much a UNC fan at the time. He overachiever in that last Final Four year beating UT's Jerry Green team. UNC fans wanted him gone because they felt he was a career assistant who inherited a program on cruise control and he was on the way to running it into the ground.

That's a major reason he only lasted 3 seasons because the quality of play decreased.
Got to hand it to their administration for cutting the rope at that point. Our leadership failed the program by not moving forward earlier on Holly.

We should be and are happy with our new coach. As for the rest, it doesn't merit comment.

I'm not a fan of people who continually want to rehash all that old garbage. I have views on it, but I don't see the profit in expounding them.

Kelly Jolly Harper is a national championship player and VFL.

If Barnes or Pearl had been coaching that team, Tennessee would have made a Final Four appearance.

Seems to me her recruiting is really what pretty much did her in. I mean, when there are years you barely squeeze into the NCAAT (a definite requirement at UT) and your recruiting of HS players are as bad as her's was, it's really just a matter of time with an AD like White.
Itā€™s also a bad take on what is achievable at Tennessee. There is no reason that a great coach cannot come close to having Patā€™s success at UT because all of the resources are here to achieve that. This same writer would lament the firing of Mike Shula in 2006 claiming that it was not reasonable for an Alabama coach to have success like Bear Bryant did. These journalists are horrible at their jobs.
So, thereā€™s no reason ā€œ a great coachā€ cannot come close to what Pat achieved?. However, ā€œgreatā€ coaches are rare and even they are gonna have trouble coming close to Pat. Only one school has ever had two great coaches and that was a long time ago.LaTech is the only school that has ever won a natty under two different coaches.

A single championship takes an extremely good coach like Brenda Freise. Multiple championships take a great coach like Tara, Muffet, Kim or Dawn. How many championships does it take to ā€œcome close to having Patā€™s success?ā€

I donā€™t think itā€™s a bad take on whatā€™s achievable at UT. A championship or two could be achieved, but thatā€™s not ā€œcoming closeā€ to what was achieved by a true legend. That may never be achieved again.

There is a reason Pat is a LEGEND

This was def her biggest flaw and then the SC Shot was just the nail in the coffin and she knew it that crying after the game in the press conference was her knowing her time was ending soon..

Well we had a 7 year failure and a 5 year one.
J mo Harper was the better of the Two. Her
LACK of a good Assistant coach was her
downfall. Glad Kim C didn't hire her husband
( her own husband and definitely not Harpers).

Kimā€™s husband is a coach, but was not hired to the staff. Iā€™m sure if a little pillow talk would help, heā€™ll spill the beans. šŸ¤£šŸ¤™šŸ¼

Would not be surprised if DW didn't make that a clear no no during the hiring process. And even if he didn't it was smart of her not to do it.

Would have been hypocritical if DW did forbide that for Kim since he just extended the husband/wife volleyball coaches.

Her husband worked for the menā€™s team at Marshall. He has never worked for her

I'm over the moon happy that Kim has the job all to herself instead of sharing it with her husband. Whatever praise or blame she receives in the future will be hers alone and not shared with her bed buddy. They way it should be. šŸ˜

Wow, what a massive combination of arrogance and ignorance. Sure, there is a small minority of Lady Vol fans that will emulate this person, but as we always hear, EVERY TEAM HAS THEM. Unfortunately, a high percentage of them are effusive sharing their WHIZDUMB to the max and give the appearance of larger numbers.

A burden we all must share! OH the humanity!

The LotM is a real thing. The depth of the LV fanbase yields plenty of fans with enhanced expectations. I just hope Kim manages to survive the first two years. My money sez she will. Will she have regained any status at the Mouse? Prolly notā€¦
