Excited to talk about next season!

Overrated IMO is Duke, Arizona and Memphis. Underrated is Oklahoma State, UConn and Tennessee

I'm fine with UT starting 19th but if everyone stays healthy, I see no reason we aren't top 10 all season long. I could also see UConn as a top 10 team. Solid backcourt, tough defense and Ollie can flat out coach IMO. Duke is weak in the paint and is banking on a transfer, a freshman and a role player contributing a lot more. Just doesn't fit. And does Black not have to wait at all? How can he play right away??

My preseason Top 10

1.) L-Ville
2.) Oklahoma State
3.) Ohio State
4.) Kentucky
5.) Florida
6.) Wichita State
7.) Michigan State
8.) Michigan
9.) Syracuse
10.) Baylor (as long as their pg is half way decent, so dangerous)

Leaving Arizona out of the top 10 for teams like Syracuse and Baylor is straight ridiculous.

[from the ESPN Rankings menu]

'09-10 --- not ranked pre-season / NIT 1 - 1

2nd/3rd season --- pre-seasons ranked ridiculously too high

'12 - '13 --- AP pre-season #17 / finished #19
USA/Coaches pre-season #16 / finished #15

Goodman used Memphis' previous history as a lightning rod to get hits on CBS site. CBS 25 + 1 ranking didn't have UM ranked while most others did TIFWIW.

Thank you for proving my point by providing the numbers, interestingly enough you didn't provide the numbers for 2 of the 4 years, hmmm.

Never said you were wrong. We didn't met pre-season rankings for those two years, but no way to control pollmakers with reality and facts (too many agendas).

Your 4-year pre-season rankings remark is not correct, which was the point of my post.

Actually it was...guarantee I can find something about expectation for year 1 and they didn't meet it. Year 2 & 3 that you failed to provide the numbers are obvious failures to meet expectations...last year was almost neutral, but considered not quite meeting expectation by AP poll.

If you think Memphis finishes next season ranked 14th or better, I'd love to put some action on it with ya.

If your team is not ranked in the pre-season Top 25 rankings, pretty hard to prove it didn't meet expectations (it wasn't ranked). And the cherry-picking AP remarks are funny. If you're talking picked to finish 235th/finished 236th, only you would care.

Pre-season expectations for Pastner's Year 1 team consisted of a 50/50 shot at having enough players to practice 5-on-5 most days. Getting to the NIT was an unexpected accomplishment as was the victory over St. Johns. Which lead to the great recruiting class (also unexpected, but now routinely anticipated).

Serious question.....

Does Memphis not have a board where their fans can talk about basketball?

Question number 2. If they do, do UT fans post on it constantly?

Yes, and yes.

There are several UT fans that post on MT.org. The median age appears to be mid-sixties over there though, so I come over here for a fresh take.

They've got 2 decent ones I know of, MT.org and MemphisRoar...I read through some stuff on their boards pretty frequently last year because of all the Memphis guys we were recruiting, figured there'd be a good feel on those boards about those kids. I never joined and never posted, and getting to your 2nd question I've seen one UT poster on MemphisRoar. ANYTIME he posts anything, whether it's pro UT or anti Memphis he's swarmed with butt chugging comments...I believe there's a few on here that said they tried posting about UT on those sites and were immediately banned.

It's much like the UK fans that post here (not referring to the ones who post in around the ncaa forum), I guess some people are just that insecure they feel the need to go to a rivals board and defend their team/coach. Me personally, I've never once posted on a rivals board nor do I plan on it. It is flattering though that some people seem to feel, I guess you could say "threatened" enough by UT to come on VN and post here to defend their team/coach.

Several of the games we lost last year was because we could not control the other teams point guard. We may have the same problem this coming season. I think the addition of Maymon means about five more wins. I will still have to see what Hubbs offers looks like he is our new McBee and certainly should be a huge upgrade in those minutes. I'm looking for something around 26 and 7 for next years team.

I think it's weird that you guys talk about Memphis on this board more than the Memphis fans do.

Ok, find it. I was in the city, I was on the message boards, I was at the FedEx Forum. There were zero expectations for that team. Find me these expectations they didn't live up to.

You can't be serious with this garbage, your current head coach is 0-3 vs Memphis.

you are correct Sir! I am still living in the Pearl days. Gonzo did beat witch st though and currently hold the deed to florida's butt. If he can't get it done this yr, he will get run out of town... memphis still sux as a whole though. no change there
