Smith has serious grade issues. He hasn't made the test scores yet. We will know if he made them on the 2nd to last test in 5 days though. If not, he only has 1 chance.

Pretty much have to consider the source when it comes to ESPN. My thinking is we were pretty much underdogs last year and everyone saw what happened. IMO its a good thing for us not to be ranked at this time. As good as we will be, right now is not the time for us to look at some poll and thing we are that good. Also I think that Coach Pearl will have this team firing on all cylinders when the polls really matter, say early March. Can't wait am I Excited.

It's much a big deal about nothing. Polls in basketball are pretty much meaningless, especially polls in the preseason. It's not like college football where everything depends on where you start in that first poll. i have no doubt UT will be in the final top 25 poll, and that's what matters.

Even with the omission of Tennessee from the top 25, it's still interesting to see three SEC teams in the preseason top 15. AND Kentucky is not one of them.

At least the SEC's good showing in the tournaments this spring brought some national respect to the conference's basketball program.

Don't let it bother you too much - it's just a preseason poll. I thought Tennessee had a chance to open up in the Top 25, and they still might, but I'm not really that surprised to see that they aren't. Our starting lineup could consist of as many as three freshman, one of which could be at the point guard position - which to me is a very, very important position. C.J. will probably be missed, especially early in the season, as I always thought he was an under-rated point guard.

As far as ESPN being anti - Tennessee, I didn't feel that way in this case. Andy Katz does mention us kinda as a team to watch. To me, he is saying that Tennessee is one of the teams that just missed out on the Top 25 & one that might be included in his final preseason 25, as the rankings are preceded by saying that they will be updated a couple of times "before November's first tip". Again, the point guard position is a tough one to replace - especially a four-year starter like C.J. When this poll came out, Ramar's eligibility wasn't known, and if eligible, he is probably the most likely replacement at the point.

I don't pay that much attention to the pre-season BB polls either. Keep in mind that the Vols could be ranked alot higher after the pre-season NIT, depending on how well they perform. The SEC should be very competive this year and it's more about how well you finish up your season going into the tournament that matters most. (Example - Florida winning last 10) We'll be in the hunt by season's end.

also, we're not 100% that ramar has qualified. From what i've read it sounds like he should be cleared to play.
