I'm impressed with McCowan of Mississsippi State. She's a big old puppy with lots to learn but she is aggressive and seems to understand the basics of being a center (rebounding, blocking out, making the layups.)
She's come a long way.

I'll say it again.

Players like Nurse and Cunningham are exactly the type of players that Tenn needs to add to the mix!

I couldn't agree with you more.
That type of player would also become an instant fan favorite.
The type you can't stand on another team but absolutely love on your team.

McCowan was dead set on coming to Tennessee and Holly withdrew her offer. I never found out the reason why. They were so focused on Cox, Holmes, and McCoy, and then ended up with no one. Can you imagine both Russell and McCowan in the paint?
Yeah she stayed on the board for a long time. I wondered why we didn't go after her.

she was good for about 15 trips up the floor, after that Wilson took over. Not likely that she will get much better as she gets bigger/heavier. I did like how she just "Woman handled" Wilson 3 or 4 times. I've been wanting Russell to do that to somebody once or twice. :(

Yes, probably right, but at least she knows, or was taught, to keep the ball up above her head when she gets a rebound, unlike Russell.

I will take a player like that any day. Getting the technical fouls, that's a sign of immaturity but a coach can help with that over the course of 4 years. What you don't have to worry about with Cunningham is effort. She is the type of kid who is willing to give their all every game because they have the competitive spirit to do so game in and game out. That's the kind of player other good players will want to play with because they know without a shadow of a doubt that even if they are down 5 with 30 seconds left on the clock that kid is still gonna be fighting til the end.

The "Sophie Cunningham's of WCBB" with good coaching can turn a mediocre program into a good one through just shear will power and leading by example and they don't need a bunch of AA's to help them. They believe so wholeheartedly in the process that if you put them with a bunch of other hard workers who may not be very skilled or athletic but know their roles they will succeed. When you see a mid-major beat a team they shouldn't its purely coaching and a bunch of Sophie Cunningham's on the court.

If S Cunningham and Duke's Grayson Allen hooked up and had a baby, it would be the Tasmanian devil.
