The extra money should allow Tennessee to pay its coach at an elite level. The top ten salaries around the country according to coachinghotseat.com range from $5.3 million (Alabama's Nick Saban) to $3.25 million (Oregon's Chip Kelly and TCU's Gary Patterson). Derek Dooley's salary was $1.9 million.
Money should be no object in this search, and it could help Tennessee land the caliber of coach it is desperately searching to hire.
I won't comment on whether ESPN has it out for us or whether they don't want Gruden to leave.
My impression is that Gruden has asked them not to speak about any speculation of his coming here. Here's the deal, all of a sudden, even ESPN Insider has stopped mentioning his name in regards to us. When they money was allocated, they had this to say:
Considering that they have speculated on Arkansas supposed offer since they posted that, it is rather obvious that they are being discouraged to talk about it until something becomes more official, or it breaks.
No news from Espn is odd. But in this case, No news has got to mean goods news. To much stuff makes sense for it to be a fantasy.
