Espn in denial over our new head coach

If we land Gruden, ESPN will undoubtedly give us mad air time in the off season and over-hype us with extensive "inside access" clips every five seconds on ESPN and CFL like they did with Meyer and OSU this past summer .

You should seriously cut back on your meds!

They haven't announced anything because nothing is official... Remember, credibility is important in journalism. I don't understand why some of you don't get this. No one is going to put there ass on the line based on message board rumors.

Funny how they go public stating they are allocating $18m over 3 years for a head coach ( which would be the highest for any NCAA coach ) and the names other than grudens that keep popping up. Let's see a list of coaches worth $6m a year.

Charlie Strong
Tommy Tuberville
Al Golden
Dabo Swinney
Gundy
Gruden

That is the worst list I have seen so far,
My list:
1 gruden
2 mora jr

I would take Mora, Jr. I realize he has no SEC experience, but if he can turnaround UCLA into a 9-2 team in one year, then he has to be doing something right.

Did I miss where we are paying 6 mil for the HC? What I read was 18 mil over 3 years staying in the AD DEPT, never saw where it was funds for the HC. If that isn't true, I would love to read differently (from a newspaper not bleacher or message board).

Same token, we are paying Dooley per month, thus no booster is paying the buyout. Gruden would be 4mil (low) to 6 mil (high). Asst coaches would be 4 mil which is now the avg for the top SEC assts total. So minimum of 8 mil per year plus the Dooley and asst buyouts. Thanks to cheek we had an SEC low 2mil reserve. IF we don't get Gruden, the blame lies with Cheek and the BOR plus the university, not HART.

He can't spend money he don't have. Hope the rumors of the boosters saving the football program.

My question...How do you know the full amount is for one coach and not a staff?

the money is for the football program...not to pay any one coach or staff...Dooley's pay starts in Jan.. still paying Pearl...probably payments for upgrades ...

new coach and staff are paid on a monthly basis not a lump sum....

I don't think it would be in Chancellor Cheek's best interest to state explicitly that these funds will go directly and exclusively toward paying the next head coach's salary. Here again are the relevant excerpts from his press release:

"As we face a transition in our football program, I want to make it clear that we support a mission of comprehensive excellence in our athletics department. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director Dave Hart, we will do the things required to return our team to national prominence. As we begin our search for a new coach, I have assured Dave that he will have the support and resources he needs to be successful.

For the next three years, the money the athletics department has contributed to the campus will be reinvested in the athletics department. Relieving athletics of this commitment will allow the department to add an average of $6 million per year to its bottom line for a total of $18 million over three years.

The money was committed under different circumstances and we now need to allow athletics to use these dollars to attain financial stability and invest in the future.

Most of this money has been used for scholarships and fellowships. We will continue to honor these commitments, primarily through private gifts. Let me emphasize, we will not reduce our commitment to students.
