Thought I would post this since so many of us on the forum discuss our recruiting efforts in GA. I think it's funny that they act like UGA has the state on lock, but then state that 9 of the top 10 players are undecided and the one that is committed is Vaughters to Stanford.

I honestly think that UGA has a hard time landing even 5 of the top 10 in-state players. I think we pull at least one (Avery Walls) and that between the barn and UA they lost another 4 or so recruits. Not to mention the gators might snag one or two. Should be interesting to see whether the "dream team" comes to fruition.

UPDATE: EDITED by OP for info...sorry wasn't thinking, but I'll share the last portion.

That makes 12 commitments overall for Mark Richt, 11 of them from inside the state. Although of the top 10 players in Georgia, nine are undecided while linebacker James Vaughters is committed to Stanford.

Actually it isn't that hard to beat the Bulldogs in Georgia.

Out of the 30 4*'s last year from Georgia by Rivals, UGA only landed 6 of them.

IMO they only landed 1 of the Top 5 guys in Georgia last year in Ogletree. Ambles, James, Rogers and Whitaker all went out of state.

Laughable. UGA does a poor job recruiting in-state, imo, and the ones they do keep aren't playing for a good coach. Their last 3 stand out players came from out of state (AJ Green - SC; Stafford - TX; Moreno - NJ).

When you have 16 preseason 4* recruits, it's difficult to keep all of them.

As of now, though, they've already got 1/4 of the 4*s committed to UGA.

Oh, and if this isn't a telling-enough stat, 68 of their football players on the spring roster are from Georgia. I think they do alright keeping players in state.

Just because they have 68 on their roster, doesn't mean all 68 were highly rated or even highly recruited.

That said, the highly rated guys they do sign from Georgia, at least recently have tended to turn out to be either busts or very average college players.

To add on to this point, UGA only got 4 of the top 11 players in GA. UT got 3 including the #1 WR/Overall, #1 OL, and #2 RB lololololol.

This is basically the point I was stating. We could fill our roster with TN guys if we wanted, but that doesn't mean they are worth a damn. I'm just saying they might get a lot of in-state guys, but they don't win the battles for the top players as frequently as they should for a team that supposedly "has their state on lockdown".

Was Ogletree the same kid that was considering UT until they took his brother or something to that effect?

Not their fault. Just like it's not their fault that some of their best players aren't from their home state.

But when you can set up a roster that's a bout 80% from your state, you've got a pretty good hold on said state.

What's the point of holding on to average in-state talent?

The whole title of the thread is just 100% off-base. When you land only 20% of the Top 30 prospects in your state (like they did last year), there is nothing that tells me it is "hard" to beat UGA out for a Georgia recruit. Just weird.

Agreed. Hell we could go sign a bunch of 2* Florida and Texas recruits and claim that 80% of our roster is recruited from Florida and Texas, but does that mean we would "dominate" recruiting in that state? Of course not.

We could make 80% of our roster from in-state talent and get destroyed every year, but what's the point? The entire purpose of my posting this is to show what a crock of **** it is to think that UGA "owns" Georgia, when as MH pointed out above they can't hold on to 80% of the states TOP talent.
