ESPN just "broke"

I guess you missed before Bruce was here.

I don't think any decent coach will want to come here. Don't give me this facilities BS, we aren't a basketball school. It's why we'll likely never pull in a really great coach.

1) My biggest problem with Hamilton's comments (other than the timing) is the "we’ll decide after we’re out of the NCAA Tournament" part. Who knows for certain we're going to be out? This sends the wrong message to our players - we should never concede defeat before games are played. Pearl's teams have often surprised people, and that's one reason he's still around.

2) For Pete's sake, he's been punished enough. The things he did weren't that bad, anyway. Bruce Pearl has made Tennessee basketball (formerly like Kentucky football, irrelevant) a force to be reckoned with. Why do you think KY fans hate him? They'd like us to can Pearl and return to mediocrity, no doubt.

3) Last year, we were knocking off the No.1 team in the country on national TV and going to the Elite 8. We still have a chance this year as well. I, for one, hope the Vols pull it together and make a run. I also hope we work through this difficult period and keep Pearl around - it beats returning to mediocrity.

You are the UT administration. Your coach admits to major violations and lying to the NCAA. You decide to stand by him. You and he agree to an appropriate punishment. He has a tearful press conference at which he apologizes tearfully and swears not to screw up again. Four days later, he commits another violation and doesn't bother to tell your compliance office about it, so the NCAA hammers you for that one too. How the hell can you keep him around? How can you trust him at all?

It's mindblowing to see how many people are willing to pretend that what Pearl has done isn't a big deal.

our piece of s isn't getting fired for cheating and has been cleared by the ncaa for everything he's ever been accused of. you're piece of s might be coaching his last game at ur school very soon. i'll take our piece of s.

imo, hamilton is safe for now due to his political ties/friendships but pearl is gonna have to pay the piper or whatever the cliche that fits best here is.

I guess you missed when Jerry freaking Green took UT to the NCAAT every year of his tenure.

It wasn't that long ago. It really astonishes me how few Tennessee fans appear to even remember that era of UT basketball at all. If it happened before Pearl, it might as well have been in black and white.

This is what I don't get. The hardcourt's version of Larry Coker got us to 4 NCAA tournaments and an SEC title. Why can't Tennessee ever be good again?

How does one describe posting a .500 record in an average conference?

This mess got blown out of proportion. The things going on off court had a lot to do with the outcome of our season. I've been following Tennessee basketball since the fifties and most years Pearl's worst record here would have been a great season for our other coaches.

I don't recall anyone celebrating in the streets when Buzz Peterson went 17-12 or when Jerry Green went 22-11 and was fired.

on one of their "Right Now" segments that "UT is unsure whether Pearl would return next season". It's old news by now, but it's national news.

Agreed.

Off-topic---Nice Avatar...miss Lyle, what a player. Him and the "Tooz" Matuszak

Considering the recruiting sanctions UT already self-imposed, if UT lets Pearl go, I think it would be totally unfair if the NCAA does anything to the basketball program. Considering how OSU responded to their situation, our program should be untouchable if Pearl is gone.

There is NO reason to have high school juniors at your house for a bbq, NONE.
There is NO reason to lie to the NCAA, NONE.
There is NO reason to violate the bump rule, NONE.
There is NO reason to not report the bump violation, NONE.

The timing of all of these actions were dumb, as well.

The only thing he is in trouble for is the lying part----if u held coaches to those standards noone would coaching basketball.

Jerry Green took a number of shots at the Tennessee fan base! He was milk toast!

If those fans are anything like most of those that have posted on UT message boards today, it was probably warranted.
