ESPN Memorial to Pat Summitt

Very nice memorial, especially the tributes from Mickie DeMoss and Holly Warlick. The video with former players crying was almost unbearable to watch.

The presence of so many former players and coaches from other teams? Impressive. And, yes, Geno looked supremely uncomfortable.

Only weak spot: Tyler Summitt. He's way too preachy for a 25-year-old who's done only two things in his life:
1. Be born to a legend
2. Destroy his entire career and damage of his mother's legacy.

I don't need this punk telling me how to live my life.

And Pat Summitt was never as overtly religious as Tyler claims. Funny how none of the other speakers mentioned this as a central part of her life.

Publicly wearing it on her sleeve? No, Pat never made a public show of her faith, like many religious people do. But that does not make the claim false, because she did not need to talk about it, or preach it. She did something better. She lived it. And if you do not understand that? I am not surprised.

The ceremony was incredible, the attendance was not. Not even 10,000 can show up to Pat's final farewell??

Way to represent Lady Vol nation....

Storms coming in, 20,000 without power in north Knoxville (per news channels), trees down, etc. It sounded like the situation would be ongoing throughout the early evening at least...I think all of that might have affected the attendance.

I watched on tv because I was afraid it would reall crowded and it was live on tv.

It was not an espn memorial, they merely broadcast it, as I believe several local networks did as well. I wouldn't call it an espn memorial, no more than calling a football game played by two teams the espn football game, I believe the University paid for it and produced it themselves

I thought it was the family & the Pat Summitt Org that produced it, and that's why Peyton spoke about the Org when he talked. Obviously UT did a phenomanal job of providing facilities, parking, security, etc, but I would think UT was paid for that by the family or the Org.

I think most of the people who meant the most to Pat and her family were there, which is what matters. I streamed it and was very moved and cried the whole time. I'm glad I was home.

The family arranged Pat's memorial, with the full cooperation of UT. ESPN only broadcast it, along with a local station.

I was really surprised to see Pat's house go on the market. I thought Tyler would keep it or sell it to someone who would keep it affiliated with UT. It had been such a part of the LV program for so long.

I'll miss seeing her out on the river whenever I'm in Knoxville. She loved the water and took that boat out, rain, shine, hot or cold. Just another sign an era has ended...
